Elephant Plains is our only major problem left, although we are still some way off to getting it back - no ETA yet

I've stitched together a 360 panorama of the Nkorho cam.  Once it loads, you can click on it and drag the mouse left or right to scroll the panorama left and right the full 360 degrees.  It's really neat -- it helped give me a sense of where the camera is in relation to the lodge, watering hole, etc.

You can view it at: http://www.ronmeldrum.com/nkorho/nkorho_360_pan.html

Note: it may ask you to download the "FirmTools" Panorama Viewer.

Thank you.  The software did most of the grunt work for me.  The hardest part was catching the camera at the right time to get a full 360 pan with no zooms.  It seemed like every time I was recording a good pan, the camera would zoom in on an animal (which is a GOOD thing).

I always pictured the lodge as being closer to the watering hole, too.  In the other shots I'd seen, it was a lot closer up.

Smiling no, you don't really need the composer to view the panorama ... BUT, it is a really neat tool to play around with.

Right now the image is at the resolution broadcast by the camera (it's just stretched a little when we view it on the africam web page), so I could probably enlarge it.  It would be a little grainy, so we wouldn't gain any resolution, but maybe it would be easier to view.

Some day I'll go there and stand under the camera and take a bunch of high-res shots with my digital camera and put together a really breathtaking panorama (something we could scroll up and down in addition to just left and right) ... but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

It was -15F here last night, and there's another 5-10 inches of snow forecast for tomorrow, so I really, really wish I was there right now. Smiling

Thanks,
Ron.

That took some work to put this all together!  The lodge seems a great distance from the wh with the camera focused at that distance.  I think we actually get a better view when a zoomie is around than the guests do from the lodge deck.  I am sure it is exciting to be on a live drive to see the animals, but when I have managed to get a slot on the WE drive, it seems many times many sightings are actually quite a distance from the vehicle.  The zoom on their camera lets us see up close many of the animals, but I wonder what the guests actually see?  It will really be great when Africam can take us on "live" drives too and have zoomies that will be able to operate the camera at night too.  This is my first experience of watching the cams during their summer season.   I am so excited to see each animal that comes into view, even if a zoomie is not available at the time.  And now that I realize that weather and power concerns can create times when the cams are down, it gives me some time to catch up on neglected household chores!  lol  I started watching this cam during their winter months and couldn't believe how many animals came each day and also during the night.  We are seeing and hearing something different every day.  Can't wait to see what happens next!
