Population estimated less than 100 individuals in SA.

The saddle-billed stork photographic survey that took place in the Kruger National Park (KNP) from September 2009 to September 2010 has been concluded. Competition winners have been announced and preliminary survey results for the southern sections of the Park indicate a total of 55 birds remaining in this area.

Big Cats Are Wild For Calvin Klein Fragrance

Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men, one of the top 10 best-selling men's fragrances worldwide, has proved equally as popular with Big Cats.

INCLUDING CHEETAHS

Watch how researchers at the Bronx Zoo discovered that captive cheetahs were attracted to Calvin Klein’s “Obsession for Men” fragrance.

That and other scents were tested in the wild to see if big cats would approach camera traps used for behavioral studies.

Pat Thomas, general curator for the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo in New York, tested which fragrance Cheetahs responded to most positively.

He used 24 fragrances and two cheetahs, recording how long it took them to notice the scent and how long they interacted with it.

Obsession was the clear winner, at 11.1 minutes,

with Nina Ricci's L'Air du Temps in second place with 10.4 minutes.

Estee Lauder's Beautiful occupied their attention for only two seconds.

Now Obsession is used in zoos as well as in other wildlife areas as part of scientific studies
