An easier question?

I live in the forests and in the woods - and in rocky areas.....

.........in fact, I can survive in the some of the coldest, hottest, dryest and wettest environments, including the Antarctic and some of the hottest deserts in Africa....

All of my (known) 16,000+ 'cousins' have a dual personality and many of my known species are asexual...........

'What' am I?

Well Done Sabine! I am indeed Lichen
My 'dual personality' is made up of 2 different living organisms, Algae and Fungus and we live 'symbiotically' which means that both of these organisms benefit from their association and that it is 'compulsory' for the survival of my (lichen) species.

Amazingly those that inhabit the Antarctic measure 10cm [4 in] in diameter and some are probably more than 10 000 years old

There are, literally, thousands of lichen in the Namib desert where few other plant species occur and Lichens can survive for years in a desiccated state (dried out), withstanding temperatures that range from below freezing to as high as 85C (185 F)!!!

Information taken/learned via the WildlifeCampus Game Ranging (Field Guiding) course

Not an amoeba Dan, nice try though.

Remember that I have a 'dual personality'....... that is a strong clue to my identification..... and that I live on land not at sea!

I can live on almost any terrestial land features as long as they do not move - although they can grow!
