Hippos and polar bears into the red list

The common hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) is for the first time included on the Red List of Threatened Species, just published by the World Conservation Union (IUCN).
The unstable situation in Democratic Republic of Congo has led to unregulated hunting, with hippo numbers in the country falling by 95%.

The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is another new entrant onto the Red List.
