Jackals
Submitted by nickgriffin on Thu, 11/03/2010 - 7:47pm.There are two types of jackals that we seen in South Africa. The least common of the two is the Canis Adustus or the side-striped jackal. One that we do not see in South Africa is the golden jackal which is located in the norther parts of Africa. The most common species of jackal we see is the Canis Mesomelas or the black-backed jackal. The black-backed jackal weighs between 15-30lbs (6-14kg). The jackal is usually around 35inches long and stands between 14-19inches tall at the shoulder when full grown. Jackals usually live in pairs that last for life. The jackal feeds on
