Iceage, are you 100% sure that the picture above is that of an African Pigmy Kingfisher as Tabs suggested. Your picture has a small kingfisher with a dark coloured beak as in this attached photo of a madacascar Pigmy kingfisher, but could also be found in a juvenile African Pigmy kingfisher. Where as an African Pigmy Kingfisher has a bright red / crimson coloured beak, not that i'm saying that Tabs is not also correct, just a fine point of identification. P.S. I come from Scotland.

Yes Tabs is very correct. It is an african Pygmy Kingfisher. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Pygmy_Kingfisher I cant do another question whitin the next 7 hours.. I am working (suppoosed to be working ) instead spending my time on dooing quizzes. maybe somebody else is willing to create a new question ? __________________

So yes off corse the crested crane fom Uganda ( Balearica regulorum gibbericeps) here is some info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Crowned_Crane there are two subspecies. I have to log of ( i am supposed to be working ). __________________

well i am not a real bird id person. I took the foto and the hint info from a malawi travel site on the internet.
So it can be that you are right... i just dont know.
I googled on pygmy kingfisher, african pygmy kingfisher and Malawi kingfisher and there are loads of picture's.
anyway it is a kingfisher ( LOL) Not a giant one as we had yesterday on the NK cam! ( i missed it) .
