Hi Pheonix,

well i am not a real bird id person. I took the foto and the hint info from a malawi travel site on the internet.

So it can be that you are right... i just dont know.

I googled on pygmy kingfisher, african pygmy kingfisher and Malawi kingfisher and there are loads of picture's.

anyway it is a kingfisher ( LOL) Not a giant one as we had yesterday on the NK cam! ( i missed it) .

Take Care Pheonix.

PS i travelled a  lot but never been in Scotland.  (maybe one day?)

Iceage, are you 100% sure that the picture above is that of an African Pigmy Kingfisher as Tabs suggested.

Your picture has a small kingfisher with a dark coloured beak as in this attached photo of a madacascar Pigmy kingfisher, but could also be found in a juvenile African Pigmy kingfisher.

Where as an African Pigmy Kingfisher has a bright red / crimson coloured beak, not that i'm saying that Tabs is not also correct, just a fine point of identification.

P.S. I come from Scotland.

Madagascar Kingfisher (Corythornis vintsioides),

African Pygmy Kingfisher (Ispidina picta)
