Hello!

There seem to be some critters hanging out at the NK this evening.  I am not sure what they are.  Still new to this and not all that sure what I'm seeing, I believe it may be a hyena?  Did anyone else see them?

Yes there are currently 3 hyenas in cam view. They keep walking on and off cam. They came through earlier apparently with a kill.

Yes there were 3 hyena.

The first entered with the item in it's mouth. Next came a smaller hyena that stood right next to the one with the item in it's mouth. I wondered if it was a young hyena. Then the last one came a few seconds later from the left.

Ok, for a moment there I thought a bird ate the loudest cricket.

Thanks for the map.  I was curious as to the location.   I spent 3.5 months in Bela Bela/Warmbad area.  I am glad I found the cam!

I just watched Aquilla's video of the Hyena with the kill, and, the way the Jackals were reacting.  When he (she) came out of the water with the kill, I think I saw a Jackal's tail on it.

Is it possible the Jackal's were reacting to one of their own having been taken?

(see the video thread for the link)

Aquilla:  Thank you so much for posting that vid.

The Hyena seem to be very quiet tonight, not making much sound at all.

I honestly don't think it was a jackal that was killed. It's much larger. Look at the size difference when the hyena is sitting in the water next to the kill and the one jackal walks up to the water edge. The kill looks larger in size then the jackal. I think it was a impala baby.

I think the jackals were following it trying to get a bite.

Just my opinion.

I'm sure you're right.  I'm not good at relative sizes.  Except to tell an Ellie from a Hyena, that I can do. Smiling
