Currently, our cats are being darted and tested for rabies, as a couple of rabies cases in domestic dogs were reported close to the southern part of the Sabi Sand. Luckily, to date, no lions have tested positive

Leopards:
Our leopards are also being darted against rabies. We’ve literally had a baby boom in the leopard population! Kurula has a four month old cub, Ntima has six week old cubs, Whitecloth has four month old cubs and even Salayexe has cubs, evident by her suckle marks, even though we haven’t seen the cubs yet.

SALAXEYE

penny (2) photos- 2006( when cat was 13 months old )

Leopards:
More great news! Salayexe has two beautiful cubs! They are around eight weeks old and are looking great. We first saw her cubs on the 25th when she killed an impala and then started contact calling. At first we thought that Tyson was in the area and that she was calling him, but then a small flash ran from the bush towards her and my heart almost jumped out of my ribcage! She has finally become a mother and after all the heartbreak, she can be very proud. I know that she will provide us with some fantastic sightings of the interaction between mother and cubs. We saw Tyson with her and her cubs on the 29th and I might be wrong, but to me even he looked proud to be the father. All the other females and cubs are in great condition and no males have lost any of their respective territories, so it is good news all around.

Special sighting:
This was definitely when Salayexe’s cubs came out of the bush running towards her. The look on our guests’ faces was nothing more than priceless!

Did you know?
The gestation period for a leopard is ninety days and females can give birth to up to three cubs at a time. Ninety nine percent of the time, only two cubs are born and sometimes only one will make it to adulthood.

I always said let the proof tell you the story. I just now said that there are two male lions following the injured one that was the update we received. So Greg went to go and view the two male lions and guess who was the two male lions THE MANYELETI BROTHERS. The one who "is dead" is fine walking like normal and the other one is injured Greg says looks like the leg is off. Then the news got even better. They are on their way to the open area so if all things goes well you all will see them., BUT they have been in a fight

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like the ones back right leg may be off.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay a quick load down: The one is fine only scares. The other one: back right leg is broken on the knee and he has a big cut on the inside of his leg.

Hunting wise: He will rely on the healthy bigger male to do the hunting for time being untill the broken leg has grown back. The only problem is that they are skinny  and the injured one has to get some food to survive.

His leg should heel but he will always walk with a limp. once heeled they will be able to hunt bigger things like buffalo again. They won't move far in the next month or so.

The next stop should be NK waterhole since we are the closest for water lets keep fingers crossed.

they have crossed into the Kruger Park

Good morning cammers!  What a way to start the day!! You lucky people....  Jacques went out when Greg came to pick up his quests that are checking out early...their only wish was to see some lions.....  How special is this then !  The vehicles that you saw was not the same one.  First it was Ronnie that came from our drive way and the second vehicle was Greg dropping Jacques and the guests.  One thing I can promise you guys, there is not enough money in the world to put me on the tracker seat in a Lion, or for that matter any big 5 sighting!  It is much safer behind the camera controls!!  Well, I really hope those "boys" stick around for a while. Happy camming!  Karin
