Changes & Upgrades
Dear Members.
Africam was the first in the world to bring you live images from the African bush, and we where the first to bring you live streaming video of the daily trails and tribulations of an African waterhole. Being the first has definitely had its challenges and has resulted in countless delays. Africam has in the past 6 months consolidated its resources, concentrating on the technology that brings you live stream video from Africa. Over the next few days and weeks you will see a number changes to the website and lots of other changes behind the scenes.
As many of you know for the past 14 months we have been streaming through a company in Canada called Wavelit. Now with the support and help of Kids in the Nest www.kidsinthenest.com, we have decided to move away from Wavelit, and run our streaming content independently. Kids in the Nest is a non profit educational society dedicated to educating our children on wildlife and environmental issues. We welcome them to the Africam family, especially Ms Charlie whose dedication and support has helped us over this period.
This new move will allow us to be the masters of our own destiny, and less reliant on other companies and organizations for the delivery of our content. Soon we will also be operating on our new, VPN network in South Africa that will allow us to expand and add additional content like the much anticipated Elephant Plains waterhole. The delay in this regards has been due to our local service provider having to upgrade the local provincial network in order to get the capacity to take on an additional feed. We expect that with this new network we will be able to add additional content quicker and more effectively bringing you more cameras and greater diversity from around South Africa.
Lastly, Africam is made up of a small group of highly dedicated individuals, who have committed everything to bringing you live content. Africam is free to all viewers and we have not restricted the number of people that can watch simultaneously. Few people realize the cost of streaming such content from Africa and as a result we rely on advertising revenue to fund our operation, we are looking into alternative revenue models for those of you who find the advertising offensive especially the Kids. But for now we would appreciate you patients.
Regards
Campbell

what exactly is happening when you try to open the cams ?
We also have a technical forum on the boma where you can ask questions or maybe find answers, when you are having problems with the cams.
you can find it by clicking here

Submitted by Gerda on Wed, 06/02/2008 - 7:50am.I am logged in, I can get into all aspects of the site, except for the streaming cams. Any ideas? I went to Africa in November, before that I had no problem getting everything, since I have returned I can't access the cams.
My daughter has no problem getting in on her computer, this is most frustrating.

Submitted by admin on Wed, 06/02/2008 - 1:51pm.As of this afternoon, March 5/08, several of us in Canada can no longer get the streaming cams either. Was fine this morning.
Problem now seems to be fixed. Perhaps just an internet glitch between countries for a few hours. A few of us were going nuts without getting our daily monkey fix. I love your cams!!!

Submitted by GYHOOYAAT1 on Wed, 10/12/2008 - 11:19pm.Hi Gyhooyaat1
The cams are now Flash format so no longer work the way windows media player worked. For full screen, below the cam view you should see the volume control icon and slider bar and to the right of that is a box with an arrow pointing to the upper right... by clicking on that box it will go to full screen. You can return to default size by pressing escape or at the bottom of your screen there is an icon you can click to return to smaller size. I hope this helps.

Submitted by GYHOOYAAT1 on Wed, 17/12/2008 - 12:24am.I am using the firefox browser and when I put the mouse over the arrow in a box the cursor turns into a hand pointing which when I click it does go to full screen. I don't know what setting if any you might need to change to get it to function properly then if it doesn't work that way for you. With some, due to the monitor resolution they are using, the control bar doesn't show maybe it is just enough to show somewhat but not function for you? That is just a guess as to a possibility. Sorry I can't be of more help on it. Hopefully someone else might see this and have a better answer for you.

Submitted by Norman on Wed, 14/01/2009 - 8:20pm.Hi
A few years back I could open the waterhole site and watch and listen live at will. I have now become a member, have logged on and cannot for the life of me open the live streaming video.
I used to sit back and listen to the sounds of the bushveld and see the animals. This cures me of my homesickness.
Please help me get back onto the live cam.
thanks

Submitted by homesick on Thu, 05/03/2009 - 10:48pm.Norman, I just joined and had your problem. I clicked on the little arrow at the bottom right corner of your small picture where you push up the sound and that will enlarge your picture to full screen size too.
