Constructive criticism

I disagreed with the decision to lock the other thread as I thought the comments were geniune and fair from a number of long-time users and contributors. Perhaps this one will be locked as well, I don't know.

In any case, I would like to concur with some of the other users who find the new platform unreliable and unwatchable. Although I haven't been contributing on this board as much lately, I've been with Africam and the original Nkorho cam since its inception and have always been a huge fan and supporter of the site. I have recommended it to others and have watched as much as possible at home and at work (and always check the pictures thread to see what I have missed, through the kindness of Fani and some others who post such excellent caps). I watch a couple different cams now, but Nkorho was my first and favorite, and has remained so until recently.

However, like others, I find the new platform just too difficult to watch on my computer systems for a variety of reasons. It does not run consistently on my operating system and often breaks down during the frequent and disruptive commercial interruptions. I understand the need to make the site commercially viable. From a personal standpoint though, I've donated to the site frequently and feel I've done my part to help keep the site viable, and was happy to do so, and I'd be willing to contribute monthly to avoid the disruption (I realize this option may not be appealing to some others but I'm strictly speaking from my own point of view).

In any case, the commercials were tough to swallow but something I was able to eventually come to grips with. The switch to the new, less reliable platform, with an inferior quality of picture that is so difficult to consistently run on my PC system is just too much though, it's heartbreaking but I don't feel like I have any choice but to move on from Nkorho to other Webcam options. It's extremely disappointing because I sincerely appreciate the efforts of Karin and the rest of the Nkorho staff, and as I said before, Nkorho was my first and favorite live streaming cam and I would not want to move on if at all possible.

I read some of the reasoning regarding the move and the supposed improvements that would result, and I guess my comments in response would be that from reading the other thread that was locked, it appears that the change is alienating and running off some of the most tenured and dedicated cammers who have contributed greatly to this site, and I can't imagine that any alleged benefits would be worth doing that.

Once again, my comments are meant in a constructive light. I greatly appreciate the ability to have been able to watch Nkorho cam for so long, and I also appreciate the amazing dedication that the Nkorho staff has shown in providing such incredible sighitings. Thanks again and best of luck to them in the future, I hope to make it to Nkorho one day and meet them in person.

We have changed to Flash because it will offer more functionality and is the progression of live streaming. Most live streaming sites are now Flash and it is the future. We have just done a major overhaul of our network and now have to fine tune everything from camera to end user to get the quality right. This is a process and does not happen overnight. We are trying different ways to implement the ads so that they are less intrusive. This to is a learning curve and we take all the feedback and try and find a solution with our ad networks. Africam are in fact being pro active so we can give you a better product down the line but this all has its initial problems. Once we have found the best solution for the ads we will have an ads free service / subscription so the people who used to donate will have an ads free experience.

Please be patient while we get this all right as we are trying to make Africam a whole lot better for our viewers but it takes one step at a time.

I rarely come here any more unless I'm dragged over by Iceman, but in reading the comments on the link that was closed, I have to admit... Flash stinks, and yes, I have downloaded all the current flash plugins.  I like it even less at WE... at least you can pause the screen to get a clearer pic here, but my movies are not nearly as crisp in flash as they were on Quick time, so I don't post very much at all anymore.   Plus, the ads are over the top!  Bad enough the little ones at the bottom and the one when you log on, but to interject ads when we are watching the pan is totally uncceptable.  Sorry, I'm just one of the casualties of the new Africam!  No loss to the group, I'm sure!

sorry to hear about all the bother. Sound control was defaulting to 100%. This has recently been changed to 50% - hope that helps

admin is refering to when the ad comes on it will only raise the volume control to 50% not the 100% as it did previously.

antytara, If you were refering to not being able to see the volume controls as well as the full screen toggle that is under the cam view then you probably have the browser view settings so you are seeing the windows at less then 100%.  Try to bring your browser view zoom settings back to normal or 100% and see if that doesn't correct the problem and let us know.

Amen to folks leaving as I fear I too will be one of them.

I don't post often but view daily. Well I used to before the switch

I have tried the fixes as suggested and I still get the twirley gig,,, too many commercials that seem to only appear when there is an actual animal to see and the blasting noise  when i had set the volume much lower.

If there was better communication between the powers that be to us the lowly viewer it would have went a long way.

Guess that was asking too much

Good luck and hope you get all of your viewers back when you finally fix this.

Too bad you didn't do a test version with various users to fix this first.

Hi,

Sorry I do not understand what you are crying about this is a free sight and everyone who runs this does a great job

I am not sure why your computer has a spinning circle but this sight runs great on my computer all of the time. Maybe you are doing something wrong

Thank you again Africam for the best website on the net

Sad ....... that is the best word to describe how I feel about the changes. I am trying to be optimistic and hopeful and most of all PATIENT .... however ......... the amount of time I spend watching that little circling thing now ....... compared to the actual time I am seeing streaming cams is 'sad'. The amount of time I spend refreshing and resetting the windows and views, double checking they are down and it isn't just that I have dropped the stream is 'sad'.

When I start my computer now, instead of an excited and exhilarated feeling, just waiting to see what is happening on Africams ..... I find myself praying for a wee glimpse before it freezes and starts with the little circling thing again.

I understand that feedback will help the adjustment process, you will know what troubles are faced and then can fix them ......... and I will hang in there Smiling They are still deteriorating and even the one positive - the sound control - is gone now.If there is specific testing or trials we could be doing, involving us viewers will possibly give us something constructive to do?

good luck for a speedy technology breakthrough Smiling:)
