If you are wondering where I went, it was the pilansberg region and I went to small reserve called Mankwe which if you get a chance pay it a visit it is beautiful Smiling.

I would also like to let you know that I shall be returning there hopefully in july to undergo and 6 week course to work in a game reserve and get some experience. I have had an incredible time and its been a real eye opener, and when I finish my studies I hope to pack up and move out there, the people are beautiful and so is the place it has changed my life for sure Smiling. I hope you all enjoy my tales and do not get to jealous Smiling

Hey everyone heres a snippet from my trip, going to talk to you about some bird life to start with, Mankwe wildlife reserve has 150 bird species at one time, it was amazing to see all the swallows preparing to go back to us for the summer. I have some bird pictures hope you can help me to ID lol. Some are tough.

Any Ideas I think a little grebe and african darter? But I am not too sure

Egrets as you can see the divide between the reserve and the farm land.

Anyone have any idea who built this nest without looking at my facebook page Sticking out tongue

Thanks guys for letting me know Smiling

Right I am going to show you the first animal I saw on my first ever game drive so here goes...

My pictures are not brilliant but you can see what they are if not then all my pictrures ore on my facebook page so just PM me if you want to add Smiling. This wildlife reserve has two key conservation projects one with the white backed and cape vultures and one with the brown hyeane. I sadly did not see the hyena but I saw the two speices of vulture.

This is the dam where I was staying its beautiful apart from one thing, a power line runs through the reserve and the vultures sadly fly into it, however vulutres and baboons will sit on them which was quite good to see them close.

Mankwe is a reserve that makes it income from shooting (some people will disagree with this but it is a big money business). They do not like to habituate the animals the vehciles so this made the animals run away. It is more rewarding to see them like this, in pilansberg it was very different later of I shall show you pictures of what I mean.

Welcome back Dan, glad that things are going so well for you.  As for how many pics you can post... only 4 per post here in the forum.  You can however post more if you make a blog where you can post pics and type explanations etc.  Look at some of the other blogs that have been done, such as RogerH, Penny2 or Gerda etc for some examples.

Hello Dan!!  I am so glad you had a brilliant time in South Africa and am looking forward to hearing more about it and to seeing your pics.  Here is some info re posting them to help you.

  • When posting images, they should not exceed 525 x 385 pixels, and the sum of file sizes of all images in one post may not exceed 240 KB" No more than 4 images should be posted in any single message, to make it easier for other cammers to view them and to give others a chance to post images. Any message which contains more than 4 images will be deleted. To help to make the picture pages easier to navigate, any repeated images will be deleted to save bandwidth and to speed up page downloads for those with slower internet connections.
