Documentaries on TV

How often do we say, "Oh no, if only I knew it was on!"

If you know about good documentaries about the African wildlife on TV, do share it with the rest of us. Not always do we look at programs and miss those good ones. Even though we share the entire earth and is there often vast distances between us, there might be someone near you who has the same channels and programs as you. Please specify in which time-zone the program is. For instance a program on BBC would be in GMT. Once the program has been featured, the posts will be deleted.

place on the course. As the celebrities move in to the
remote lodge where they'll be living and get their
first taste of how close they'll get to wild animals

I dislike 'reality shows' and this one makes me very uncomfortable!

Whilst we are all quite happy to be 'entertained' by the wildlife, when we go on safari (and pay our dues for conservation) I cannot see how this programme adds to conservation/preservation of the wildliufe in Africa - or any other continent.

If the 'celebrity contestants' in this show were really interested in conservation they would put some of their inflated salaries/royalties into genuine conservation efforts rather than taking part in these ridiculous 'Reality Shows' for their own grandisement and personal profit.

I finally caught this programme on TV here.  Unfortunately I missed the first half, but what I did see was awesome.  Thanks for posting this one Katja :-)  I will try to catch the first half next time.

I'm sorry I didn't see it from the beginning. I was zapping around and didn't see it all. What a stunt to climb up there.

I did see the harpy though, with the monkey in it's claws.  I guess they have to eat. Sad

I loved those birds coming up close to them.

After 12 years of broadcast, Big Cat is going live! An unprecedented three weeks of live webcasting leads the way so you can follow the fortunes of Africa's biggest predators and their prey 24-hours a day. With live webcams, daily videos and field reports and a week of live television beamed directly from the heart of Kenya's Masai Mara game reserve, the big cats are coming closer to you than ever before.

Two new presenters, journalist Kate Silverton and local Masai guide Jackson Looseyia, will join Simon King and Jonathan Scott at their camp next to the Mara River. With a supporting cast of hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, wildebeest and of course the cats, anything could happen at any time.

But dare you stay tuned once the sun goes down? Like domestic cats, lions have superb night-vision. Their prey won't see them coming but you will, as infra-red technology reveals what goes bump, howl and roar in the African night. Don't miss the monochrome drama that's red in tooth and claw.

The drama of the big cats, their predators and prey, begins on the web on September 22, with more live and recorded features rolling out over the weeks before the series airs on TV. Get ready for the ultimate armchair safari.

------------------------------------------

I can't wait for this, it is one of my favourite shows on TV.

They have live webcams from the Masai Mara on the website.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bigcat/index.shtml

The show is on...
October 5th - 6:10pm GMT - BBC One (60 minutes)
October 6th - 7:30pm GMT - BBC One (30 minutes)
October 7th - 8:00pm GMT - BBC One (BBC Two in Scotland) (60 minutes)
October 8th - 8:00pm GMT - BBC One (60 minutes)
October 9th - 8:00pm GMT - BBC One (60 minutes)
October 10th - 7:30pm GMT - BBC One (60 minutes)
October 11th - 7:50pm GMT - BBC Two (60 minutes)

Don't Miss It Eye-wink
