Elephant Kills Suspected Poacher, Tramples Him To Death
The Telegraph is reporting that a suspected poacher in the Charara Safari area in Zimbabwe has been killed by the elephant he was attempting to illegally hunt.
The body of Soloman Manjoro was found by rangers after it had been trampled during the incident. It appears that Manjoro illegally entered the park at the end of April to poach elephant for their ivory tusks. However, when he attempted to kill this particular animal, it is believed it charged and crushed him.
Manjoro was not working alone. His accomplice Noluck Tafuruka was arrested later in the reserve for carrying unlicensed weapons and contravention of local wildlife laws.
As the demand for ivory in Asia grows so will the threat of elephants being poached. This global issue has come to the forefront recently and many countries are trying to combat the crisis with various political and law enforcement measures.
