TourneyMan  told;

Alt     F4

I have  had it too.

I had no idea what to do and  in panic I called my son .

He told me   it is probily not a virus. He scanned the comp  on virus .

No virus.

Hei- I got that alert yesterday when opening Africam. I inspected my laptop with my REAL security program and it told that everything is clean! Now fifteen minutes ago I clicked popup window(Africam) and the same irritating and tough alert came again. I had to close internet connection. It tries to get you upload some strange cleaning program. Don´t do it!

Saturday I was hit by the warning, too.  I read the words Trogans and virus...  Certainly sent me into a panic.  Luckily a computer worker was in the building and ran a check on it.  No virus found.  If it happens today I will not know what to do on my own.

**Which add is the one in question!?????!

**Administration please e-mail me when this is fixed.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear about the problems, I hope that africam admins really go after the network who is responsable for getting this into africam.

Maybe its good to give some tips to windows users.

Always have an updated Virusscanner and Firewall installed ( ALWAYS!)

Install the update's from microsoft.

Its better to use Firefox as a browser then Internet Explorer from Microsoft.

a little program that really helps to protect you'r safety and is very good at it is Spywareblaster.( free version) It gives real time protection.

You can download it at:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

maybe the best malware spyware scanner ( its completly free) It give's no protection in the free version but its one off the best scanners on mal/spyware, its called malwarebytes. (Mbam)

You can download it here->

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

After first install do a full system scan ( will take time!) but i really recommend dooing a scan at least once per month.

now and then also do an onlinescan with:->

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

( i also recommend adware from lavasoft ) (free)

http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

To clean cache and cookie's i recommend Ccleaner. Also its very good in fixing errors in you'r Windows register. (free)

http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Never ever download a program on a popup that says you'r computer is infected and you can restore with there great ( $$$ ) program! almost all that are fakes! They are just there to get you'r money.

Sorry to hear Africam again was a victim of a malacious advertisement rogue that give's much confusion to the users and the Africam admins.

Take care all. and Surf safe!

I got the same message at the end of March and, thinking that it was real, I did run it.  Afterwards, I began to have problems with my laptop so I called in my teenage nephew.  It turned out that I had a virus and my computer had been "hijacked" - it was running at 100%!  I had to have it repaired and it wasn't cheap.

I just got the same message but this time I ran my new anti-virus and malwear.  It turns out that there were two problem files and everything seems to be fine now.

Unfortunatly that is what thoose programs do : They Come up in a pop up telling you you'r computer is infected... They tell you that it can be fixed by there program. ( always 99% Fake) If you click on the popup you'r Computer will be infected and often indeed also hijacked.

Thoose are very nasty programs and after an install they are hard to get rid off.

the link i gave about malware bytes (Mbam) does a very good job on it and will clean a lot off infections so its really a recommend to have it installed on any windows system. (Xp and Higher)

I am sure Africams Admins are really concerned and worried about thoose events also. But maybe  a little more feedback to the users should be given if problems do happen.

a message by a Moderator  it has been reported and after that no information public is posted from an Admin doesnt really help i think.

Its no shame at all if you run a big website that problems do occur! its even completly normal!

But please Admins post some feedback to the users also.

Folks,

Tracking this down is proving tricky especially as this happened during the weekend when all the ad networks offices are closed for the weekend. We are nevertheless taking whatever action we can take right now.

In the meantime advice by Tourneyman & Iceadge is appropiate.

We will get back to you as the situation develops.

At this stage we can only offer our humble apologies

*FirePhish https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/2366

I hope this helps everybody with the problem.

We believe we have identified the problem and have it under control and terminated.

The ad network concerned is busy investigating how this could have happened as they have formal screening processes in place, which have obviously failed, again.

We will update you on the feedback we get.

We can only aplogise, again, for this slip up but would like to assure you we take these matters seriously.

The virus ad or what ever it is, is still here. I got it three times one behind the other immediately I tried to open Africam. For the fourth time it was ok.

FYI.....you are still affected...

This is a huge hole. Personal Antivirus is a rogue which also downloads additional trojans....including a credit card and password stealer. I suggest you rip out their ad scripts until your ad service get their heads out of their butt....

There is no excuse....none....zero.....for an ad service to let this happen and take this long to fix. At the first sign of trouble....they should have shut down their ad servers and take the financial hit. Period.....

As Maxx says people, be very careful, because this is what can happen if you are not.

It took me a whole day to find and repair this lot below. 131 found so far.

Last thursday morning, 27.8. I opened my laptop , I had to do some important bank affairs before going to a trip. As usual I first opened Africam to check the waterholes... and what did I get : troian horses!!! I didn´t know that yet then but my IT connections freezed and then my safety program foud four troians and isolated them but laptop was not working yet. Luckyly I found a scanning program  and after using it connections came back but I didn´t dare to take contact to my bank... Troians were sent by fake alert!

I Have not foud any info if this nuisance still visits here on Africam and do I have to inspect my laptop every time I log in these forums? Too bad!!

While no ad network would admit they were specifically to blame,  we made a very big noise to the two we zeroed in on.

Having said that the internet can be a dangerous place to the unwitting and we recommend you have sufficient firewall & virus protection software properly installed and working.

The ad service has apparently pulled the ad and the second attempt ad was also caught so hopefully there won't be any more problems.  As previously advised, don't click on any pop up type ad like that but hold alt then press F4 to close the pop up as it is a good bet that the ones like that can not be trusted.

Hi

I would like to hear the noise admins did to the Ad service's if possible with all the yells shouting and screaming Smiling In MP3 please Innocent

The screenshot posted by Pheonix? sorry cant make much of it since its very incomplete and doesnt show the problems on his Computer. It also doesnt show that the rogue program that was on Africam is reponsable for it . and it doesnt show his Computer is cleaned. ( Sorry Pheonix)

The Internet nowadays is a very unsafe place to be at.

There is a new virus out several months already called Virut. If you get that there is only one solution and that is Format each and every Hard Drive, Cd's , Dvd"s, memorysticks .. its a file infector!

For ppl that want to know about that info is here-->

http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2009/02/virut-and-other-file-infectors-throwing.html

I dont want to upset ore scare anyone! I just want to say ... Be Aware on what you do on the internet.

I dont think in anyway Africam can be blamed to "Might have "brougt" problems to your Computer!

They trusted the payed ad networks.

But its for the networks that Africam is trusting on to keep saftey first at all stage's and i agree with Maxx that when problems are shown they should dismantle that servers from Internet and with each  and everyone's expertise  go for a fix!

The bad thing also is not also that if networks got infected , users will loose there trust in safe surfing to a site they love also, so by hosting bad networks Africam only looses users/members as they loose trust in surfing to the website.

I know the Africam servers are in the USA and that is the country were they do Huge Damage money complaints with clever lawyers.Wink

So Africam Admins  : DO MAKE A LOT OF NOISE!

To all users : Dont loose the trust because something bad happened, it can happen.

Try to keep your Computer safe!

Always have the last update's ( secure update's) Always have an Updated Virus scanner and Firewall running.

(have a back-up!)

Download Mbam and spywareguard and install and scan now and then.

If you dont trust something on you'r computer ore notice "strange things"  go and ask help from helpers!

You can ask help and check here->

http://support.bluemedicine.be/mybb/forum-62.html

http://hjt-data.trendmicro.com/hjt/analyzethis/index.php

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html

Remember if your computer is infected it will infect many other Computers also !

Last and again , I dont blame Africam in any way, It happens to a lot of websites infecting others.(:

All i say again is : Admins make NOISE! you payed for the networks that are bringing the adds to africam and you are totally entitled to expect them to be free of rubbish!

Let Africam be a safe host to all that love it! And I sure love Africam!

Ice.

Iceage, why don't you just take my word for it, i made a mistake when i clicked onto a AFRICAM advert and recieved the rogue  problems, on the first day i only managed to clear 131 of them, the rest over the next few days, in total over 200 corupt files.

A blind man on a fast horse at midnight can see the problems i had just by looking at my previous post, they are all in red and when i double click on them, they expand to show me exactly what the corupt file is, you don't need to know exactly what the problem was, as long as i knew and was capable of repairing the fault.

For further information my computer is now cleaned.

If you don't mind me saying, you seem to have suddenly changed your very strong opinion of Africam Admin, it was only a very short time ago that you hated them and was threatening to leave and never come back, oh! how very fickle can one get. ( Sorry Iceage )

That was uncalled-for Phoenix! For someone who claims to be from 'God's Own Country' (wherever that is!) it was a very un-Christian and uncalled-for comment to make.

Whatever Iceage may have said before, s/he has proven to have a dedication towards Africam which has overcome any previous issues and doubts and should be commended for that dedication, not bullied like a child in a school playground.

The shame is on you for your lack of understanding and perception, not on Iceage, who you very publically denigrate here. Have you never made comments, or taken actions, that you have later regretted or re-thought either online or in your 'real' life?

If Iceage 'doesn't mind' you saying, I do, as I know Iceage much better than you do and I appreciate that s/he is very committed to Africam in spite of any difficulties that have arisen in the past  - so please keep any such comments and inuendoes out of the public domain in future.

Thanks!

It can be very well that the Gremlin is completly banned from Africam but still is in a sleeping mode on YOU'R  computer!

If it pops up only at africam i could be a cookie that is time-activated ore connected to an Africam cookie..

I dont say it is,  but it can be ... ???

So anyone who got the popup again...

(first Step)

please do run Ccleaner

ore use another way to delete all cookies and empty cache.

and run updated malwarebytes ( Full scan).

My dear Pheonix,

I can easy believe you'r Computer got an infection from Africam if the only website you ever visit is Africam. ( but still then!) It is a truth that if you install a clean windows and connect to the internet without any protection you probably will be infected within 10 minute's!

You say to me Pheonix i should take you'r word on it that your PC is infected by Africam, But in the screenshot you posted it doesnt show that at all.. It only shows an infection! it doesnt even show which infection it is.

OK you tell us all you have cleaned the infection ? How do you know you did that? I dont see a logfile from you'r PC beeing safe and clean!

You tell me that a blind man on a fast horse could see you got an infection and yes i saw that also!

If somebody shoots you 6 bullets in you'r chest then i can see you have a hurted chest.. You can go to the doctor then who remoove's all thoose Bullets but after leaving the doctor when you are just on the street again you can be shot 6 times again.

So you better wear bullet proove iron.

You told me  : I quoote you:

you don't need to know exactly what the problem was, as long as i knew and was capable of repairing the fault.

For further information my computer is now cleaned.

end quoote

Well Why Pheonix ? Why dont  you tell us all what exactly the problem was ? were it came from? and how you managed to clean it ?

We all can learn from that.

anyway the partial tiny Log file you posted in a screenshot says nothing.. It only shows a very little part off a screenshot from an antimalware program you did run.

Sorry Mate.

Hi

Maybe this complete Topic is better to be removed.

Hopefully the problems are solved.

Anyway i tried some things at beeing logged into africam and i didnt get any problems at all anymore.

What we can learn all from this topic is that all our computers have to be very well protected ( including the Africam servers and the advertisement servers they are connected to).

Lets hope the problems we got on malware are behind us and never will return.

On my part Topic Closed .

If new problems happen we can start a new topic (but hopefully not)
