Flash Media Conversion of Elephant Plains

Greetings Africam Members,

You may have noticed some recent changes with the Elephant Plains streaming camera. Africam is in the process of converting its live streams to the Flash Video Format. This conversion is going to open up a whole new world of options for our members one of which will be the ability to upload your own africam highlights. If you are unable to see the stream you may not have Flash installed on your machine. You can install it by clicking the following link:

Download Adobe Flash Player

Eventually, we will be converting all our streaming cameras to this flash format including Nkorho and the upcoming Flamingo Island Cam. If you are having any other problems or issues with this new format, post them here and we will try and help everyone out as best we can.

-The Africam Team

I too, cannot watch the videos anymore.  Internet Explorer 8 was automatically installed recently and there is no flash player availabe for the 64bit version.  This was not my choice!  Adobe says they are working on one, but WHEN?  I miss the animal videos, and this is my first post here.  Love you guys!

Cannot say that I have had the same issues. Then again, since the old days and one of the original Africam'ers...this stuff is awesome even with a glitch here and there...will never forget that first 'kill' posted live at one of the cams...damn...what a night...eddie

It might be the earphones you are using or the jack connection if you are only hearing it with the earphones and not through your pc speakers?

Hi Tman. I remember that conversation and agree that there is a lot of insect "static" at night. I originally said it was only at night but just checked and it is during the day too. Played with my pc volumes and it still doesn't go away. It's a background electrical hum. I only notice it with earphones. If it's an "is" I can live with it. Thanks for trying to help.

Donna we were discussing that hum sound in the waterhole chat one night.. and after listening to some sound recording and reading about them.. we came up with that it was probably cicada's that were making that sound.  It did sound like the hum we heard and wasn't consistant like an electrical problem would seem to be and the site that someone had found said there was something like I think  150 different species of cicadas in South Africa.

They did made a change now where the ad will cause the volume slider to go to the 50% position instead of 100% as it was.  Ensure that your pc master volume or your speakers are turned down so that at the 50% level of the flash viewer the ad won't be too loud.  You will need to manually turn up the volume if you want it louder to hear the slighter sounds of the waterholes if 50% isn't enough after the occational ads that do that.

Greetings Admin, et al,
I'm following up on some questions asked a few days back:

1. The NK cam was apparently damaged during the recent rains so night viewing is very blurry. This seems to have improved some, although not completely.

2. The sound at NK has a "hum" at night. I don't notice it during the day.

3. Is there a reason nights at EP can't be improved?

4. The frequency of the full ads have improved but are resetting the volume. I read this was changed to 50%. Why does it change at all?

5. Is there any progress on the ads free subscription?

6. I don't know if this is feasible but could you post minimum requirements for optimum viewing? For the non-technical the Flash website is somewhat confusing.

7. The response time on the forum is consistently slow, but worse at "peak" sign on times around the world. Is it simply the added viewers or are you planning a "fix"?

Thanks for ALL that you do!!

Everytime it goes to a commercial it comes back with the volume full blast instead of the volume I had set it at.

I as well as others have given up on watching anything here because of it.

Will this ever be fixed?Yell
