We are trying to acertian how you view our Nkorho cam. The idea behind this is to improve our service delivery. So could you let us know:

1. How often do you view the Cam (e.g. twice a day, twice a week, once everyday)

2. How long do you watch the cam for(e.g. all the time, 20 minutes per login period, variable but on average XXmin)

Thanx for ur input

I watch 5 days a week and on an average of 7 Hrs a day.

I'm very concerned about the spinless person or persons who are causing so much trouble with using other peoples names to post coments, not so sure what is being done about this issue but I'm watching very closley, would hate to not feel that I can post and talk to fellow cammers about what is a big part of our life. I'm not sure if they or Africam knows what kind of uncalled for hurt it can cause other people.  Hope it is finished, if not hope it is delt with with a hard penalties.

I usually log on to the web cam when I get to work, check out the sightings/chat page and then leave it on so if I hear something I can come over and check it out. It is usually on anywhere between 8-12 hours just depends on how long I am at work. Usually 4-5 days a week. I only have dial up at home so I have not been able to get on the cam.

You have become the background music to my life lol. I try to keep you running in the background at work so I can see the daylight scenes I miss at home...and also for the balance\escapism you bring to my day. Just hearing birds, etc in the background is awesome. At home, if I am in the house & awake then you are probably on. Sometimes I am watching religiously, sometimes I will do other work around the house, and just peek in on Nkorho every 10 mins or so.

I too have it on at the very least 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.

If I'm home on the weekends, it's usually playing in the background then also!

I don't post here much, but I do come and lurk a lot! Embarassed

I moved to the country 3 yrs ago and could only get dial-up. Wasnt too bothered until you announced the streaming cam...in the end my husband gave me high speed as a Christmas present last year (he said to stop my constant screaming in frustration when I couldnt get the WH...LOL) . Now I watch for as many hours as I can (being retired thats all my waking hours...LOL). I am and always have been addicted to Africam since the first day I discovered it, about 7-8 yrs ago I believe. Thank you sooo much for all you are doing and about to be doing..... Smiling

We turn on Nkorho in the morning and let it run all day and evening!  Sound turned up so we don't miss anything.

The WH is wonderful and can't imagine not having it!  I always have stories to tell friends and learn so much from the very knowledgeable folks on the "Chat" site.

Love Nkorho and any improvement would be welcomed.

Many thanks!

I turn on Africam first thing in the morning.  I check out the streaming cam pictures to see what I missed during the night.

If I'm home it is pretty much on all day.

I enjoy the sense of humor among the members.

I truly LOVE the peace and solitude of watching the animals

Thanks for asking this particular question.  I know everyone calls themselves an addict, but I was concerned that I was REALLY an addict.  Phew I feel better now after seeing the hours that people leave the cam up.  I am on 24/7 unless the cam is down.  I watch as much as I can.  My previous job allowed me to use the cam while I worked.  I used ear buds.  Now I am unemployed, so I watch an average of 6-8 hrs actively, and check up throughout the other times.   Unfortunately, the noises would keep DH up, so the sound is turned off at night (10PM-6AM ESDT).

Ever since a friend told me about Africam this year in February, I have been addicted!  This will be as close as I willl ever get to Africa to see these animals in person.  I am a retired licensed family childcare provider and had nearly every animal figure available for the children to play with.  They all knew what country an animal came from, the names of the animals and other information about them.  A large number of daycare providers in my area use this as an in depth study of these African animals in their daycares.  I know that some keep a daily log to see what new animals come to the wh every day and how many different animals and make graphs, etc.  I have 5 grandchildren that are now enjoying the cam.  I personally have researched every animal, bird, lizard and even a few trees and plant life that I have seen and identified  and have created a portfolio with all of this information, including pictures.  Were I still caring for children, they would be learning so much about these animals.  I watch every day, 7 days per week.  I also have the site on my computer nearly 24 hours every day.  I pull the streaming cam screen down into the corner of my computer screen and bring up the Africam Always Live Always Wild in another corner.  I keep the sound up any time I am doing things in other areas of my home, so I too can hear when some animals come to drink, as I can often hear splashes, slurps, animal calls, etc. that alert me to come look to see what is there.  I can still do other work on my computer while these are live action.  I really appreciate seeing the photos and videos that other members post each day to see what I have missed.  I only recently joined so I could also post comments and ask questions about what is happening daily at the wh.  I love this site!  I really hope nothing happens to spoil it for everyone!  Seeing animals in a zoo just doesn't compare to seeing them in the wild!  I am an Africam Addict!

Hi mule girl,

The comments you are referring to were not posted on the Africam boma.

Yes, we know this can be the case and that is why there is the following rule on this forum.

Nicknames and identities. The nature of this forum requires people to be able to trust who they are speaking with, so please use only one nickname on the message board. Anyone found to be posting under more than one ID will receive a warning.

I hope this helps Smiling

Turn it on at about 7am when I start up my puter, it sits in the bottom corner of my window, then I just resize my browser window so I can watch while I do other things, heh.

Usually turn it off between 10-11pm, and I watch every day. Thanks for keeping it running!

I turn it on first thing in the morning and have it on until I go to bed at night or sometimes into the next morning. I really miss it when it is down. Thank you so much for letting us have this to watch.

I too am an addict.  Africam comes on before email or pogo.  Oh, and before bill paying.  It's always up in the corner and the sound is up.  I am a disabled single parent and have 3 more adopted kids still in grade school.  I watch/listen all day between laundry, homework, etc.  I watch in my morning/CAT night with breakfast to catch up on photos and chat.  And I'm on in reverse when the kids get to bed.  Since I have insomnia, I'm sometimes on until 2 or 3 am MST. The kids check out interesting photos and sounds after homework.  When they have reports do and they pick the subject, it's always about something they can research on Africam.com.  They can also get some idea of how their ancestors lived.

It's always been my #1 dream to visit Africa and get a photo of "the tree" and me.  I'll never be able to afford that trip, so I go virtually with Africam.  And thank you MacMac for all the answers to our questions.  It helps make it even more real.  When my body gets overtired or my brain overworked, I take a mini vacation to Africa.  I agree that it's soothing to listen to the birds.  (NOT the frogs or animals screeching warnings!) That's another thing the kids are learning.  Not only the food chain, but which animals share the wh and which take over.  How some circle the wagons around the wh clockwise and then drink.  When they're through, how they turn their back to the wh. The zebra lineup in the proper places.  And watching the babies grow.  If they would all just become vegetarians I would be MUCH happier!

Thank you so very much for a wonderful sight that is part of our lives 24/7!

I have sons officially adopted that are just turned 36 and 34, and an officially adopted daughter,31. My birth daughter who will be 31 tomorrow.   I have an unofficially adopted Mexican daughter, 30, that came into my life in her early 20's. Then three more officially adopted children, sons 12 and 10 1/2 (can't forget that) and a daughter 9.  Here is a picture of my Mexican daughter and I.

[Edit: I know..you should have seen the size of the photo before I got it this small. Feel free to make it smaller if you know how! :)]

A friend told me about the Africam and I signed on in December 2006, just in time to see the lion visit on Christmas Eve.  You can imagine how thrilled I was that first day.  Africam is on  all day at the office (with the sound off) and 24/7 at home.  I am definitely an addict and so so so grateful for this site.

I watch the cam and participate in the forums everyday and have since my son sent me the link in Sept 2006.  I love hearing the sounds, particularly the birds and insects in the winter months when it is so silent outside in Canada.  Since I work full time and have to sleep sometimes, I probably average about 8-12 hours viewing per day, sometimes more sometimes less.  I work different shifts as a counsellor at a shelter for abused women so watch at all times of the day and night.  I have learned so much and enjoy the interaction with others on the forums....one day I hope to visit SA.  Thank you very much for the daily pleasure.

Lily (not verified)

If I am  awake & I am at home, then you are probably on.   I do other things around the house, but every time I pass the pc, I check - and the volume is always up so I that I won't miss any visitors.  I now know the sound of a rhinoceros footstep vs an ele arrivng.....and I recognize the sound of eles frolicking in the wading pond.    I can tell when the hyena comes for a drink.....got the cadence of lap lap lap swallow firmly in my brain.....plus a wealth of other wonderful things.    I love the information exchanges and the welcoming people.  I am on the wrong side of North America so I miss all the daylight activity, because I gotta sleep sometime, otherwise, you could put me down in the "watches 24 hr./day" column.

Thanks for this amazing opportunity.

When I'm home the cam is on all the time, from the time I wake up untill I go to bed... not only the streaming cam, also tau and black eagle is on here lots of times. At the hotel where I work, the cam is on 8-10 hours/day... Regular guests at the hotel know who's working just by looking to the pc at the reception desk.... "Oooh the cam is on, Gerda is working today "

Hi,

I received an email with your link about 1 month ago.  Since that time, I have been logged on to your website for 12-16 hours per day, most everyday.  I leave the sound up and go about my day.  Active (well, attentive may be a better word!) viewing would be perhaps 1-2 hours per day.  My viewing time zones change as I work half time on the east coast of the US and half time in the highlands of Guatemala, but my computer is on Africam from roughly 7:00 AM till 11:00 PM.

You have added immeasurably to my life.  A million thanks and kudos for your wonderful work.

I just have to make a comment about children watching.  One daycare provider related that one little boy saw a warthog and immediately said "Pumba!".  No wonder "Lion King" was such a big hit with the kids, and now live action Africa!

Oh my Gosh,

How much do we watch this. Where to begin. This is an amazing learning tool to all our children over here in Canada. NOT to mention the rest of the WORLD. Never has there been anything like this. If not for the members, it wouldn't be as good as it is. Any of our children can ask a question about any animals and BINGO they get an immediate response.

Do these little faces AND teacher not look like they are having fun? You bet they are. 24X7 here..Smiling The people who man those cameras and pan tilt etc deserve merit badges. Your whole crew does. Job well done Africam.com.

THANK YOU for helping us educate our children. and have fun in the process.

These children and all the children watching this for that matter, are all learning about wildlife. More importantly they are also learning how they can help these animals, Black Eagles and so many more.

In addition to all of this, if that wasn't enough, they are also learning how to use a computer, search out wildlife, record and use new programs that even I didn't know how to use. They can sign up and take free wildlife course through your wildlife campus and more.

Yes, Africam.com is way more then just watching amazing and LIVE wildlife at our famous waterhole.

Last and by no means least, this site is 100% kid/family friendly. THANK YOU for that. Knowing our children can go on here, and be safe is more than a little reassuring. No small feat to keep it that way to, and again we thank you for that.
