In picture Logo (advertisement)!!

It´s sad to see the logo in the cam corner!
The last resort of nature is hereby damaged,
like to throw litter in nature.

Is´nt it sufficient with all the surrounding publicity.

What´s next step? Paint the elephants??

Hello Lasse,

It's not advertising but the protection of rights.

The moderators got this explanation the from Africam staff:

Quote:
ok, as a first tentative step we have introduced a watermark - so all video from now on will have it - the design/appearance/transparancy/size will be worked on.

We need to do this anyway, despite any recent fracus's, to protect our rights so our advisors councel us.

the advertising is very important to keep this site going. Thank you africam for all you do. I think after a while our eyes will see right past it.

This site is free to viewers - so I fail to understand why anyone can seriously complain about any advertising, logo's - or anything else that Africam wishes to incorporate - in order that they can continue to afford to provide exceptional entertainment at not cost to the viewers.....

I may be talking out of order here but I have to state my opinion - which is that if you don't like what is on offer then you have the choice not to view!

I, for one, am fed up with those who expect Africam to provide them with exellent (free) viewing of the wildlife and (free) use of the Boma but who also expect Africam to bow to their personal expectations.

Those who complain should 'get a life' and recognise that they are getting an exceptional experience, at no cost, from Africam and should be thanking Africam rather than posting their silly/selfish/inappropriate opinions.......

just my (personal) opinion.................. Innocent

Well Tabs, I think your post is somewhat Harsh... but just like the others here have the "right" to voice their Opinions I suppose you do as well.

Africam has every right to put a watermark on their streams but it's nice they thought about their viewers and made it as unobtrusive as possible. Even the zoomies were having difficulties trying to zoom in on critters without having them blocked out by the larger square watermark.

My views may appear (somewhat) 'Harsh' but, at the end of the day, we are being provided, free of charge, with beautiful pictures, lots of interesting and educational information  - provided by dedicated Africammers and the staff and volunteers - who are mostly giving their time without pay, and are attempting to give us the best possible viewing  - whilst also attempting to make sure that Africam does not go bankrupt - which would result in the loss of this site, eventually.

If I appear to be 'Harsh' in my opinions here it is only because I have been a dedicated and fully supportive Africammer since I first discovered Africam in 1999 - and I cannot bear the thought that those who are not as dedicated [as some of us are] cannot see the 'bigger picture' here  - and I cannot live with the thought that Africam may not survive just because some 'pedantically object' to advertising, watermarks or whatever, simply because they can.

I have no objections to viewers offering suggestions to improve the site - but I do object to those who complain about adverts etc and who expect Africam to comply with their wishes, at Africam's expense, whilst they cannot provide sensible, suitable, and sustainable [alternative] suggestions - and who compare Africam to 'other' sites in a disparaging way which has often happened on the Boma.

We are privileged to be a part of the 'Africam Experience', thanks to the hard work of Campbell, and his staff and volunteers.

I to want to thank Africam for letting the whole world to view without paying. I cant even start up my car without it costing me and to get this is great. Complaints were made about Wavelit and ppl wanted something done. Africam stepped up to the plate 1st and  still complaints. Remember Africam, everyone cant be pleased.  Although I do agree the 1st logo was real a bit to much but I had confidance that something else would come to mind and you would clean it up. It just took a few days so what. It must be why you have 20,000 members plus!

It is a shame that people feel like they will get totally reamed out for voicing their opinions whether any one else agrees with them or not.
I believe what was talked about in the first place has now turned in to something else.
In my humble opinion, people "should not" be made to feel like they are being put in groups of who has done this or hasn't done that. It is not the facts of who may contribute more monetarily no matter how big or small they were able to contribute at any time, thru experiences of going over to SA, thru furthering their knowledge from research and possibly sharing with others, contributing thru videos or still pics, putting together Tutorials in hopes of helping others, or just being there to try and help when some one may have a curious question to ask about Africam or the cams in general.

As a dedicated and fully supportive Africammer since 2006... I feel it is not beneficial to Africam to alienate their members/viewers rather new or old. A little diplomacy goes a long way. Just my opinion.

Why  is everyone still talking about this? The logo has been changed...thank you Africam !!!  Everyone knows that Africam needs donations and ads to survive.

I donated back in the late 90's to keep Africam going. I was amazed at that time to watch the refreshing cams with no sound!

I don't remember anyone arguing on the Boma then. We just had a good time watching the refresh cams and talking about them.

This is far from the thread topic but after reading the last few posts, this might help us get back on track.

Africam members (new, old or inbetween) are all dedicated in their own way.  Some will show their appreciation by making monetary donations.  Others might spread the word to all contacts in their network who might have never found out about this wonderful free site.  It's awesome to see how far Africam touches the world.

We are all on the same page but sometimes our translations are just a little different. Because we can only read the posts and not hear the voice behind it,  we might lose out and translate in the wrong direction.  But Africammers are amazing.  Our hearts are always in the right place.

Perhaps this thread is an example of mistranslations.  We are all here to enjoy the sights and sounds.  Human nature tends to challenge change.  But in the end we all want what's best for Africam.    A long and properous future.  Smiling

oh and by the way, I like to logo - nice job!
