Jock of the Bushveld by Sir Percy FitzPatrick
ISBN 0-86852-058-6
As mentioned by MacMac in the Watering Hole's Q&A
Wild Dog?: The canine you may have seen on the camera recently belongs to the owner of the lodge. This type of dog is known as a staffie. This is a very popular dog to have in bush or bushveld areas. Back in the day they were often used as hunting dogs, the most famous of which being "Jock of the Bushveld". If you can find his story somewhere, it is definitely worth the read.
Published in 1907 the book became a classic amongst animal stories. It's the story of Jock, a bull terrier, whose owner was a transport rider in the rugged and colourful days of the Transvaal gold rush. The days when big game roamed the land and each sunrise had it's own adventure.
One of those must reads, take it with next time you go on holiday
