I am very new to africam, I apologize ahead of time if this question is repetive, is there an easier way to view the "streaming cams?" I am just clicking on the links and watching it from there....should I be watching it from a different location? When I try to paste the URL in quicktime or windows media it says the format it not recognized....fellow mackers....help!

You're not alone.  I've been watching this site for a couple of years now, but haven't created an account 'till tonight.  I did so to complain about exactly this problem.  I used to be able to view the cam from my home Mac.  Now I can only rarely get it at all, and then only through the pop-up.  I use the Flip4Mac WMV viewer  and the standard Safari browser with the Leopard OS.  It seems to me that this is pretty basic software.  Why the problems?  On the homepage I see a button asking for donations.  In theory, I'm open to the concept, but not when I can't even see the critters anymore.  I am not happy.

I have been watching on /off for a year.  Had some trouble lately but the other night I got into the ep and NL easily but can't do the time shift.  I usually can only watch in the evenings (Massachusetts time) so can't figure out why.  Also have to click from the side orange links, not from the buttons under the intro.  weird.  I do ok on Pete's Pond.

I have had problems on and off. One thing I recently learned is when I lost NK and EP I had to go to system preferences---quick time---browser (on top of window)---and then empty download cache (at the bottom of the window). I also had to restart a couple of times. When I do macs version of right clicking I get a window that lets me save (where I choose) a quick time movie. I've saved many of these, as well as doing captures by clicking command-shift-3 those show up on my desktop. I import them to Iphoto and crop them. what I haven't figured out is how to import them onto a forum. Hope this helps.

P.S. I've had no trouble with time shift and I can get to NK and EP  through the big green buttons and the orange bar on the side.

I too have been watching for over a year. Something recently was done here and nothing I have tried has remedied the problem. Think someone should be able to help Mac users. I have WMV plug-in and use Qucktime to view the WH and EP. Just so sad that I can not longer enjoy with my friends. Finally even registered to get them and ...nothing.Yell

I am currently not on the mac, however I was getting that and I had to uncheck the option with Safari, play with those

safari options, (meaning unchecking) and then reboot and try again. When I am back at the Mac I will look up exactly what was checked again..

Yell The Africam cams just don't support my platform and see nothing will be done. Everybody have alternate links to EP?

I have not been able to access the cams for awhile now since they changed the format.  I was able to use the pop-ups but I can't even get them up anymore.  I just get blank white screens.  I have tried using Safari and Firefox and neither work for me.  I also have flip4mac and it works fine for all other webcams but not here.  Does anyone at Africam have any ideas as to why we mac users are having so much trouble?

I used to watch them too.... I loved it! I could watch the sun set in Africa while I had my morning coffee, and watch the animals. Sadly, neither camera works anymore. I would love to see them fix what ever is wrong so we can watch again! I really miss the gecko that ran around on the screen at Nkorho Pan. Frown

I have never had any trouble using my mac to see the cameras.  I used Flip4Mac.  This morning when I logged on it didnt work.  I have upgraded the software and it still isn't working.  Just a white screen. Hope its temporary.

Hi ajy. The cams are down for everyone. Telkom, the SA supplier, has been having problems lately. We talk about many things in the Forum Campfire or Wateringhole, including cam status. Come join us. Smile

We have mixed messages on this - it works for some & not for others. Please email ryang at africam dot com - he has a central repositary concerning Mac issues. We will probably be posting this soon anyay.

We will also be going thru a player conversion in the following months or so.

As a temporary fix, can MAC users view the Nkorho Pan at the following link?

Exact same problem here, sadly. I love this cam when I can see it!

Yes, it is very disappointing not be able to view the cam. I could view it in QuickTime only if one of the URLs for Nkorho or EP was in my OPEN RECENT. Since they aren't there any more, I cannot see the cam.

Would it help if someone put out those URLs for us Mac users?
