Meeting Iceage in Amsterdam!

I have made many friends in the 8 months I've been a member of Africam, and gotten very close to a few of you, but my newest friend has got to be the most awesome of all.

I PM'd Iceage about 3 weeks ago because he was new and called a jackal a "lovely dog"... I didn't know he was kidding, so I very briefly told him that it was a jackal!  That was the beginning!  Since then there have been many emails and marathon phone calls from Holland, but here's the real amazing ( to me anyway ) part of our brand new FRIENDSHIP:  My husband and I will be traveling to Amsterdam this coming week to take a river boat cruise  to Budapest.  Iceage, who lives 3 hours away, has offered with great enthusiasm, to drive to Amsterdam and be our personal tour guide for the one full day we have in his beautiful city!

This,  to me is a beautiful  thing for anyone to do, let alone someone I've "known" for such a short time.  It restores my sometimes faltering faith in mankind!

Thank you Iceage!  And thank you, Africam for the good things I've gotten from being a member.

Thank you for allowing me to do so, Icy-man.  I am seriously considering getting a laptop before my next long trip, so that I am not locked out of anything just because I have not memorized 250 different passwords!  LOL

This thread has been so much fun, I hate to see it end.  We will just have to arrange to "meet" again.  Aloha until then, and hugs to all who followed my adventures.  I must admit, Amsterdam was my very favorite BIG city along the Rivers we traveled, but there were so many delightfull small cities in Germany & beyond.  Those of you who live on that side of the world are probably use to it, but for those of us who live in the "NEW WORLD", it's a real experience.

Hi There,

Now that Emjay is safely back at her own house and finally is back at her beloved  Macintosh , there is no need anymore for sharing our accounts together.

Sorry for all the confusion Wink

Iceage is now Iceage again, and Emjay is Emjay Kiss

it  was a delight sharing my account with Emjay.

I love them both too! Did you take the night tour in Rothenburg? And you must have seen the Lorelei.

We left Rothenburg before nightfall, but yes... saw the Lorelei, and brought home a bottle of the wine from that region... very good!

I have MANY pics of the beautiful towns, castles and churches along the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers. I will be making a slide show of them, and posting the URL here for anyone who's interested, as time allows. My favorite old towns were Rudesheim and Rothenburg. Durnstein, Austria was lovely even at night. Of course, Vienna... but much too much to take in in just one day!

I have many better shots of Marken, but they all have people in them, and I've been asked not to post them (I'm still working on that!)

What fun would that be? And wouldn't I look silly standing next to a little Dutch boy (the kind that use to be on paint cans!) in CLOSED wooden shoes!  lol

I was warned that the Zoo in Budapest was not worth my time, but the entrance was very nice:

On Margaret's Island, there is a 300 year old Sycamore tree.. if you put both hands on it and make a wish, your wish will come true... I have my doubts! Sad

And lastly, the wind and gray skies were very "crisp" for this Hawaiian... I was glad I had taken my BIG RED JACKET!
