My Jelly Bean Adventure

Hello

I am writing this on behalf of my 6 y.o. daughter (Erin) "Princess E".  She is in Kindergarten in Mrs. Fitz class and they made cut outs of "jelly bean people" to take on an adventure over spring break.  Since we could not go anywhere we thought it would be fun to send the jellybean on a "worldwide adventure" to places where Princess E would like to visit and track the adventure on a map and in a blog.

We are also hoping that anyone that helps us would as take a picture with the small cutout and send it back to us.     I spoke with "Princess E" teacher and she thought this was a fun project and the class could as help track.

My questions are #1- would anyone from Africa be willing to be the first one to help as this was her first place she wanted to go after we adopted her (she loves animals) and

#2 if anyone esle is willing to particpate please email me and let me know ASAP so we can get her adventure started.  We would like to keep this going all summer if we could and keep a blog for the children to track.

thank you for any helpSmile

sunny and princess E

I don't really understand what it is you want us to do. Are you going to send us a cutout of a jellybean figure and we take a photo and send it back?

Sounds like fun....might I suggest scanning the pic of the jellybean and emailing to those who want to be included. They can digital pic it, and email it back to you. Save in a lot of mailing issues and time. I have many friends around the world and you can try me if you'd like. Let me know and I can pm my email to you.

I am not sure what a jelly bean people cut out is.

But if it's very small and light, I could help. I am going to Africa in 2 1/2 weeks so I could take it with me and take pictures of it in Africa if I get it in time before my departure.

That sounds like such fun for a class !!  You can count me in for sure. For those of you that do not understand the concept, Preincess E would mail her Jelly Bean Cutout to someone on the list. That person would then take a photo of the Jelly Bean in a local adventure setting. maybe write a short story about what Jelly Bean experienced while in that place. Historical places and well known points of interest are great for this.  Or perhaps an adventure doing something that children in your hometown do for fun.  The Jelly Bean would then be mailed to the next person on the list and so on. Tracking the Jelly Bean accross the world would teach map skills , geopgraphy,  and History. And be great fun in the learning !

As Samsher suggested, as overseas mailing can be quite expensive and time consuming, perhaps it could be done with a Digital cutout of the actual Jellybean. Each Person on the list could then make an identical cut out of the Jelly Bean and take  photos and write a story about what Jelly Bean experienced while there. and post them for the Blog. . Maybe even the actual hardcopy of the photo could be mailed via snail mail to Princess E, so she could make a scrapbook and use stamps from around the world for further learning !

Hi and thank you all for replying.

I loved the idea of scanning the picture and sending it.

She is really excited about it and looking at our globe right now.

As soon as I figure out how to post a picture I  will show you the jelly bean.

Ok, I will join in too. At the moment I'm not doing anything hugely adventurous or interesting so it will have to wait till later in the summer.

Till when is the jelly been doll going to travel? Is there a date when it's travels has to stop?

Hi,

Thank you cerinthe.

There is no stop date and you don't have to travel, just the fact you live in Belgium is enough for us as it is another geographical (sp) spot on the map and a place of interest for Erin to track.

We are keeping the adventure going on all summer until school start if possible and if you know of anyone else that would like to contribute that would be great.

I spoke with Erin's teacher this morning so we are going to start tracking on the map and watching the blog site.

Again thank you all

Count me in as well... I'll introduce Jelly Bean to some of the critters that reside at an animal preserve where I volunteer....such as an ostrich, wallaby, skunks, racoon, cougar, tiger, jaguar, leopards and a variety of other critters.

I live in hot and sunny southern Florida.....

hello fellow friends and adventurers.

Sorry, I have not updated the last week.  I had not been able to log on due to overwhelming issues here at home.

Anyway jellybean now has a name, it is "jelly" and Erin has received pictures back from Jelly's adventure to the Jelly Belly factory in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

I have added the pictures to the blog site so everyone can get them out.

Also, if I have missed emailing or sending jelly to someone who has agreed to help in the adventure or still would like to help, please email me and let me know.

Thank Sunny, Erin and of course Jelly

Hi there!

My Nursery (Kindergarten) children would love for Jelly to visit them in West London!

A few years ago I took 'Flat Stanley' to Africa (Kenya and SA) for 5 weeks, for a project for another school in the USA, and sent back pictures of him taken at the Nursery and at Heathrow Airport (London), in Nairobi and Kyatiki (Kenya) and in Capetown, Johannesburg Airport, Pretoria and Sabi Sands (SA), along with a written diary.

The school sent me a picture of Flat Stanley which I then cut out and laminated before taking him on his adventure.

So sorry I haven't responded yet, but Jelly has a reservation to attend a childrens community theatre production of "the little mermaid" for which I am the photographer. Jelly should be able to attend this weekend and we will send a picture of her with some of the cast next week. I believe I still have the blog information.

My Nursery children are really looking forward to the arrival of 'Jelly' - hopefully within the next week. They are excited about showing Jelly around their Nursery, and our small town, and taking pictures and videos of their adventures together for Erin to show to her class.

"Jelly" has arrived in Dunedin , Florida and after resting for a while , and maybe some cuddle time with Bud Dog we will be out and about for some great adventures.  And what great timing ! My Sister has promised to take Jelly to one of the Disney Parks this weekend.  I will have to be careful she does not get a sunburn while visiting our lovely beaches.

Wow! Jelly is going to a Disney Park? We can't wait to read about her adventures!

Don't forget that she needs suncream factor 30+ in order that she doesn't get sunburnt - and a sunhat and sunglasses of course! Cool

In the meantime, Jelly has also arrived in London UK - and whilst we are not able to take her to the dizzy heights of Disney World we will be showing her around our small town.

She will be introduced to the Nursery children tomorrow (Thursday) and will spend her first day getting to know the children, and playing with them in our garden and paddling pool.

Jelly will also take part in a pre-school computer lesson, which will help her when she writes her online blog!

Jelly has had a lovely day at Nursery - meeting the children, playing in our garden on the climbing frame and in the paddling pool, and enjoying great food!

The children have encompassed this project wonderfully - they are all vie-ing to be the next one to take her home, or to have their pics taken with her!

Jelly has gone home with Owen (aged 4) and his baby brother Adam (aged 20 months) for the night  - and their mom has promised to take a couple of pics.

Tomorrow Jelly will have new experiences at Nursery, including learning a bit of French, and will then be going home with Rachel for the weekend - and accompanying her to her Ballet Class on Monday morning. Jelly will be wearing her special tutu, which we made today, for this!

She will then return to Nursery at lunchtime on Monday for more exciting adventures!

I don't have a site from where I can post pics of Jelly's adventures but I am hoping that sunny and princess E will post my pics here.

Hello

It sounds like "Jelly" is having loads of fun and Erin loves getting the updates.

We have more pictures to post and since the other site is giving us problems I have a call into my niece boyfriend about setting up a web page so everyone can download the pictures they take so everyone can see and also track the adventure.  (He is a computer geek).

Tab, If all goes well, I will be sending out a package next week for your class from Erin's class.

Hi, Jelly has returned from her trip to Disney Hollywood where she had a great time . She rode the rides and was one of the first to visit the newest attraction, Midway Mania.  She mailed Erin a postcard and sent a special little gift. My Sister, Phyllis, will be posting the wonderful pics of her as soon as she gets them resized and sorted ..she took a gazillion LOL.  She was a big hit with all the Park visitors, and drew comments and Hellos from everyone who met her.

Now that she is back from Disney, her adventures can continue here with me in Dunedin, Florida.

The pictures are so awsome!  Erin was so excited to receive them and see what fun Jelly had.  She cannot wait to show her classmates.   She so much wants to go to Disney now. Smile

We also have some new pictures on there of a sidetrip Jelly took (we did not know about this), but are very excited about it.  After all, you never know where she  is going to go as this is a worldwide adventure and half the fun is not knowing.

I am helping her put 2 photo books together.  One scrapbook that she can add pages up to size 12 x 12 too with all of the pictures, fun stickers, stamps, postcards, etc.  (Jelly even now has a passport book for stamps in it) and a smaller one she is keeping pictures organized in and showing them off to everyone of all of her's and Jelly's new friends and places visited.

She is starting to get quite good at pronouncing new words and looking up places on the globe. (She gives her class regular updates)

I cannot begin to Thank everyone enough for helping us start this adventure and make it a truely exciting adventure for Erin as well as her father and I (as well as other family member that now ask about Jelly).

Sunny & Erin

P.S.  If you need the name and pw for the site, just let me know or anyone that has posted pictures to it and we will give it to you.
