Hi there everyone.  I have been watching the Africam for about a year, but just got high speed in June, which improved things a LOT!   I've only been reading the forum postings since it changed over from Wavelit.  I love animals and find it very peaceful watching them hang out at the waterhole.   I have a friend in Livingstone, Zambia and went to visit her in May, which was wonderful.   Saw lots of critters.

Thank you to those who capture pictures and videos and to those who have put together the sounds of Nkorho.   I'm trying to memorize some of the bird sounds.

Hello to those of you from British Columbia Canada.   I see at least a couple of you.  I am in Vancouver, so when I am sleeping, the animals are up and doing things :-)

I was there in 2003.

I have read some of the travel forum and it is very interesting.  When I decide I am going on a trip to a specific place, I usually get a Guide Book about the area and study it carefully to see what are the most interesting things to see.  We used to take a vacation somewhere in the US every summer when my kids were younger.  My husband was such a penny pincher, we saw as many "free" attractions as possible all along the way to our main area of interest.  Then we maybe went to see a couple of special attractions that there was a fee.  We camped, so could save most of the money for those things.  Of course one trip we had tons of car trouble, left our 7 & 8 year olds at a gas station on the freeway and went 20 miles before we realized they weren't in the car, the baby and I both got chicken pox in the middle of Nevada plus other disasters happening almost every day!  Could and should write a book about that trip!  lol  I know someone here who is a child care provider and one of her families went to South Africa last year.  They did spend some time in Kruger National Park.  I plan to talk to her to find out more details of the trip.   I would want to spend some time at Nkorho and Elephant Plains, of course!  Wave to you all from the deck!  Hold up a big sign that says "Hello, Africam Addicts!  Wish You Were Here!"  lol

Thanks! Maybe we can get all the friendly people who are Africam members and live in SA or were born there and now live in other countries to give us some suggestions too. It is always very helpful to have someone local either guide you or give you suggestions on where to go or what to do once you actually get there. Last year I guided 2 ladies and their husbands from England and 2 ladies from Australia on a tour in New Jersey, New York City, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida. We had someone in each city that took us some places and also suggested places to visit on our own. A very nice experience.

There are plenty of people here who have the knowledge and the experience of visiting South Africa - I suggest that, when you are ready, you post on the 'Travel' forum for advice.

However, you need to be a bit more specific about where in South Africa you want to visit as it is such a huge country, with many different eco-systems and many wildlife parks - plus, of course, the many other interesting areas that are interesting and unmissable, such as Capetown or the battlefields in Kwa-Zulu-Natal, which would enhance your trip.

Internal flights in SA are reasonably cheap and you can easily do more than one area in a 2 week visit.

Hi Ann,

Well, I was lucky, since I had a friend there.   I had a place to stay and she told me everything to do.   I went to a travel clinic and got some shots.   I got my tickets from a travel agent..    My friend and her husband arranged for things for me to do.   So there's not much to tell really.  But it was a wonderful trip.   My friend runs the elephant safari in Livingstone, so there were 8 elephants in the back yard, including a six week old baby.  She lives in Mosi o Tunya  National Park, right on the Zambezi.   And Victoria Falls was just down the road.     I couldn't very well miss that opportunity, so even though I couldn't afford it and even though I am terrified of big spiders, I went.  And I'm glad I did.  (The spiders weren't so bad Tongue out)

Welcome, Zasu!  I am in MN in the USA.  A number of people on the forums would like to visit Africa sometime in the coming year!  I would like to hear more about how you arranged your trip.  You probably have lots of good helpful hints.  You can send me a private message (pm) when you have time and maybe I can learn from you what to do!
