Would it be possible to give the new chat topic a different name . this forum is really getting very confussing to keep track of where things are , I understand that its getting very hard to please us all and everyone wants "rights " and there is very little understanding for anyone else .

Which name would you suggest for it?

First it was called 'General Chat' but then I renamed it to 'Nkorho Chat' because it seemed that some people thought they weren't supposed to talk about a sighting on Nkorho Cam in the chat topic and had to go to the 'Sightings Discussion' for that.

maybe a better idea would be to move it to the same area as the campfire chat , I,m sorry for being a pain , I liked being able to read about what was happening on the cam or being able to catch up on what had happened during the day without all the other chat .And it was more information than just sightings .Feel free to just ignore this , I just thought I,d ask . Thanks for taking the time to read this . :)

For that we have the daily "Nkorho Sightings Discussion" topics which are also in the Watering Hole.
They are strictly only for posting Nkorho sightings, discussions about the sightings and to ask question about the animals seen on the cam.

I don't understand the need for a separate chat when we have an entire forum dedicate to hanging out together and talking about everything.

For me, it splits us into the Water Hole People and the Campfire People. It just feels weird.

The Nkorho Forum (recently renamed Africam Streaming Forum) was originally set up for discussion about the Streaming Cam at Nkorho only, with all other chit-chat being directed to the Campfire.

The problem, as I see it, is that 'some' Bomites have a tendency to ignore the 'rules' of the Boma and chat about general things in the Africam Streaming Forum when they should be using the 'Campfire' for this.

This makes it difficult for those of us who want to find out about what is seen/heard on the streaming cam, and discuss the animals etc seen without having to trawl through many messages that can only be described as 'chit-chat' - which some are not, frankly, interested in.

If they are interested, they can go to the Campfire.

This has been an 'issue' for some time now and, whilst I appreciate that the Moderators do their best to move unwanted messages, and inform Bomites as to where they should/should not post, I don't think that it helps that there are so many forums here - it is not only confusing for new-commers but it causes confusion for all about 'what' should/can be posted 'where'!

I disagree, as you can see from the splitting of the waterhole threads into whaterhole chat and sightings that if you want to find out about what is happening or seen (I read the chat thread) If you read the sightings thread not all what seen or heard is posted there.

So if you move the waterhole chit-chat over to campfire then there will be more to read to find out what is happing.

For now if I want to know whats been seen/heard, I look at whaterhole chit-chat as not all are posted in sightings and I don't think they ever will be all things heard/seen posted in sightings as people need chat to pass the slow times and stay interested.

.

That's part of what seems to be a problem with this new Nkorho Chat outside the Campfire forum. I don't know where to look, what to read, where to comment, what's appropriate what isn't in which of those two threads.

That "chat" thread seems to be filled with lots of comments about the sightings and thoughts about what is seen and heard--all of which seems totally appropriate (to me anyway) for the "sightings" threads.

But you can't go by me. I don't understand at all why an additional chat thread was instituted--folks just had to join the daily Campfire threads where we say hello, goodnight, whatcha doin, whatcha thinking, whatdidja see, etc.

First of all, thank you for all the effort you put in to try to make this site user friendly and a success. I think you have done well, which is difficult to do with so many viewers. I was confused when I first saw the two waterhole chats. I am primarily a waterhole chatter, with only a few excursions to the campfire. Now it seems I have to follow both waterhole chats to get the input I was seeing in the single previous chat. I am willing to continue reading both, however, one seemed more simple. Thank you.

I think I understand what motivated the change, but it's going to be hard. I suspect that what will happen is that most people will only post in the "chat" thread and the sightings thread will end up missing a lot of the day's action..

For example, early Monday morning, a pair of beautiful brown headed parrots were spotted in the bushes, and the camera person followed them in the air and to the WH. (Have a look at the great photos that were taken!). I ended up posting in both threads to discuss these beautiful birds, and someone posted a great video of the birds, and I don't remember which thread that ended up in.

People were chatting in the chat thread when they arrived, and so most of the discussion/identification happened in that thread, with some in the sightings thread. But it's hard to go back and forth quickly with a sudden and unexpected sighting, and so a lot of stuff got repeated in each thread..

So I think there may be a lot of duplication and repetition. For the person who likes to skim these threads to see what they missed, I don't think they will be confident that everything will be reported in the sightings thread, so they'll need to skim through the chat thread. It will end up being less efficient, not more, if you need to go through two threads to make sure you caught everything..

I really am not sure what the solution is, and perhaps this will work with practice. I love chatting with people about what we're watching together on camera, and I hope this can continue..

Thanks to everyone who is trying to make this work!

One solution would be for everyone to have followed the original "rules" and used the daily Campfire chat thread.

I (think?) that is what I was trying to say smalldog - I truly appreciate the efforts of Admin and the Moderators in 'trying to please everyone here' but by splitting the topics in the Waterhole Chat they have just made it more confusing and difficult, not only for new members, but also for those of us who have been here since the beginning?

The sheer numbers of Forums and Topics here puts me off a tad.... I would love to have the time to read (and respond) to them all but it is not possible.... and I am worried that Africam and the Moderators may yet add even more Forums/Topics in the future, which may put off others, besides myself, from posting as it may become a bit overwhelming?

To Admin, and the Moderators (a personal view):
Please try to keep the Boma 'simple and user-friendly' for the very many viewers here who do not have the time to read all of the forums/post here.
I believe (rightly or wrongly) that the majority of viewers do not post here because they are intimidated (maybe that's not the right word but it is the only one that comes to mind at the moment) by the (too) many Forums/Topics that they have to trawl through; and because they are limited for reasons of work or internet time to do so.

:P

....is that what you mean wannabethere?

I have difficulty in following some threads and forgetting 'where' I saw 'what'!
Yes, I can do a 'search' to find what I am looking for but these searches can produce so many options that I often give up as I don't have the time to read them all.

My Tips on forum viewing from my time here.
1)If you want to see what you missed look at Streaming cam pics as most things seen are posted here maybe 99% off them.

2)If you what see movie off what you missed and seen in Streaming cam pics, look in the weekly movies and post asking for movie someone might have one.

3)If you want to ask about what was seen post in the NKORHO SIGHTINGS DISCUSSION

4)If you want a running chat sightings/sounds and mostly waterhole chat check out the NKORHO WATERHOLE CHAT . This is not the place to look for what you missed, you will do better looking at the Streaming cam pics.

5)If you want to chat about how to bake a cake pop over to the The Campfire..

Perhaps all the chats (Djuma included) could be located in the Campfire forum? I long for the pure Water Hole daily discussions--minus the chat.
