Hi skpaw, welcome!

What you saw were Cape Buffalo (syncerus caffer).  Water Buffalo originate in Asia and don't occur in South Africa.

I missed the buffalo, but the pics are great Smiling

There has been a new day started ......

They only put enough water in  to keep it from drying up totally they try to mimic nature as much as possible so all the bacterias and enzymes do thier thing properly.  No they don't water the grazing areas.

Hours ago there was a large group of Water Buffalo.   They drank and drank.  I actually can see that the water level has gone down quite a bit!  You can see dirt at the pointed area where there was water before the herd came.

Will they make sure this water hole stays active and filled?  Do they ever water any of the grazing areas if food is scarce?

Thank you -- I hope this post in in the correct spot.

Poor reedbuck was finally able to get a drink after that big meany head chased them off.  They remind you of grumpy old men. They are graceful in their own way.

Wow reedbuck again and wildies, I guess that rhino had to go all the way around the wh just to run all others off his territory.  Finally heard rhino pass gas geesh the things we wait on in life!

LOL  Don't know if that was rhino gas but if it was would have caused waves on the wh.  Maybe a burp was more like it.
