Elephant Plains is our only major problem left, although we are still some way off to getting it back - no ETA yet

Thanks, Fabby. I've never even heard of the animals on the list, other than a rhino beetle, which I've seen in the zoo. I guess Nick was wrong about the chameleon being on the small 5 list.

Yes, the common/grey duiker is the only antelope that eats meat.

I know what the "big 5" are, but does anyone know what the "small 5" are(other than chameleons)? Nick mentioned the "small 5" while showing us a chameleon on one of the three game drives I have witnessed. I'd never heard of them.

Buffalo weaver
Ant lion
Leopard tortoise
Rhino beetle
Elephant shrew

Not the chameleon. I don't know why Nick talked about the Little 5 while showing the chameleon.

I just googled duikers. Did you know that they eat, in addition to what one would suspect, i.e., fallen fruit and leaves, lizards, and other small animals? Maybe like ourselves, a few hundred millena ago, they are increasing the protien in their diet, which will make them smarter. Duikers, a rival dominant species? :)

I think the dog kept the 2nd lion away while Harry waited in a tree for help to arrive.

You are right. I have just looked it up in Harry's book "Memories of a Game Ranger".

good one Aquila, I forgot the cape buffalo. They wouldn't back down would they. I've seen them (on TV of course) deliberately seek out and kill lion cubs hiding in the tall grasses while the pride was away hunting. Oil & water!

I've seen that too. Eventually it turned out only one out of eleven cubs was killed, but I watched it praying for the little cubs and heart racing. It was terrible to watch :( But that's nature for ya. Magical one moment, evil the next.
