~~~New Day Nkorho Chat~~~
Nkorho Wateringhole chat - Friday 21 September 2007
Well, I guess I started all this, (this time) so I may as well put in a few more cents worth.
First of all, thanks sagresta, Karen and others who have spoken up about behavior on the thread which they feel is inappropriate. I feel strongly that it is up to us, the bomites, to take care of business, here, and not leave everything up to the moderators.
I won't say any more about the griping and complaining - I think Karen has covered that nicely.
I will comment, however, about what has become a constant stream of postings which seem to be all about drawing attention to the author(s) and not much about the boma. There are more appropriate places to stand up and say, "Look at me", than here.
I've noticed that a lot of the old time "regulars" who used to contribute greatly to this thread, have very little to say, anymore, though a check of "Members Online" shows that they are indeed lurking about. I can't help but believe that some of them just don't feel comfortable here anymore. I'd like to personally say to anyone who falls in this catagory, "Hey, come on back in, we miss you!"
I don't think there are any specific rules against posting opinions and off topic material on this thread. It was created specifically so that we could chat about off topic stuff when things were slow around the water hole. However, good common sense would seem to dictate that at least most of what is put up for everyone's viewing be at least somewhat relevant to what Africam is all about.
If any of what I have said offends anyone, I'm sorry. It was not meant to offend. If any of what I have said strikes a positive note, then I'd love to see folks step up and say so.
<stepping down off soapbox, now>
Maybe the rules for each thread could be posted at the top of the New Day for a few days just as a reminder
Karen, Thank You! Thank You!
I too have not liked all the griping here lately and all the idol chatter & posting of obscure YouTube links.
I think that everyone should revisit the Rules for this thread and abide by them.
There still is the Campfire Chat thread for all the other stuff!
ANN: you see what they are doing.....trust me when I tell you my heart feels for them. It's a royal pain when you have this problem. It's as frustrating for them as it is for us watching it.
They need our support and HUGS.....heck all the times we get a great picture makes it, well at least for myself and the students all worth it. IMHO.....
Thank you Ms Charlie for saying that.
I have spent pretty much every night watchin Nkorho for quite a long time, and yes I do agree we have had some pretty rough viewing at times, but we have also had some fantastic viewing and close ups AT NIGHT.
First off, this is "free" for all of us to view. So, ya know what if you are not happy it's not costing you a thing if you get up and take a break from it. The people as we call Zoomies are Nkorho Lodge Staff and man the cam on a "volunteer" basis. They are doing it for free also.
IF we were all paying to receive this feed and maybe part of what we paid also went towards the salary of a paid cam operator, then yes I might gripe more. But since all these people are giving up their time to share their country with me, why would I want to spend day in and day out complaining and nit picking things.
I am one that believes in saying what you want or need to say, get it out and get it "over with". All this non stop griping when the cam or zoomies are having a bad night is not going to perfectly change things.
I used to like to post more in the Waterhole Chat, and I still do "when things can stay geared towards what it should be". But life is too daggone short and I have my own personal life problems to sit there and watch "not all" but a good amount of the comments being sooooooooo negative towards The Nkorho Lodge Staff our "volunteer zoomies".
I see more complaints than compliments and "thank yous" any more, just say what you gotta say to get it off of your chest folks and please good grief...let it go!!!
Where are some of these viewers when we have great or much clearer night viewing or the day time viewing when zoomie is out there searching in the back drainage line trying to find critters for us. Do we say "thank you for the nice walk about" or "thank you for trying to find critters for us".
Wasn't there a "separate thread" created for all the problems with the cam viewing issues and focus? Why don't those who wish to, leave remarks in there, so it can be kept all in one central location, so that Campbell, Admin and the Mods can find them much easier, instead of trying to sort thru different critters comments, odd links to what ever being shared, etc.
The thread can be found on the Main Forums Page then Technical Issues and Suggestions then under Streaming Video Player and Camera Issues.
I bet if you if it is all kept together, it can be compared more easily.
Hey my students just noticed: VOTING has begun on the Contest......
We did our, votes, hope you guys will go vote. It's a tough one cause there ALL good.
OK I am off to go and decorate house for fall and soon Halloween. You all take care.
It's back up Lea!
It is kind of funny that all 3 cams have similar problems with the exception that PP is down or at least it was an hour ago.
