Yes, I am recognizing many of them by sound alone now. I will be looking forward to see how things change with the seasons. I know from reading about the area, that many of the animals are easier to view once they go into the tree line because there aren't as many leaves on the trees during the winter months. I would guess it will be quite difficult to spot a giraffe in the summer. I found it hard to spot them sometimes even lately. The zoomie stops in one spot for a time on occasion and I have to really look closely to see what he/she is looking at. Most of these animals have excellent camouflage and can stand so still for such long periods of time, it is really hard to spot them. Will the same animals keep appearing throughout the year? Or do new ones come and some we see now go elsewhere?

Those closeups earlier were super cool! Nice of them to come back by and keep up entertained. Ann if it bothers you now wait till the rainy season when the animals don't have to go down into the waterhole because the point spreads out farther. Look at it this way it's still fun to come in here and play guessing games as to what is just on the edge of the cam. __________________

I thought I heard one hyena whoop and maybe some jackals, but a distance away. I too turn up the volume when I am away from the computer and have forgotten to turn it down again and all of a sudden loud noises about knock me out of my chair! I wish there was a way to get an alert when some of these critters that don't make any crunchy noises upon approach or slurping while they drink arrive. Those are often those little bokkies. No wonder it is so hard to tell what kind they are most of the time. They are so much smaller than I realize. I had lots of different play animals in my daycare and the Carnegie Collection makes dinosaurs to scale in relationship to each other. It is amazing to see how much larger a brachiosaurus is compared to another species the size of a housecat. Safari LTD makes a lot of the other animals from around the world, but not to scale. One doesn't realize just how tall the giraffe is until you see it next to another animal. Like putting the giraffe next to a mouse. Unless there are seveal different animals at the wh all at the same time, it is hard to judge the size.

Ann, I heard those calls from far away too. I am hoping it was a bird and not some poor animal being attacked. I cranked our speakers up full blast to hear more and it sounded unlike anything I've heard before. Hopefully I'll remember to turn the speakers down before someone else in my house puts on some music. If not, the air-bleeding screams at my place will be worse than anything any of us have heard at Nkorho. __________________

I guess I just get spoiled by all the great zooming done in the daytime and it frustrates me when people have to sleep over there! lol I realize a lot of those little bokkies get lost when the camera is back too far, but someone needs to draw some lines on the ground and give those animals directions to stay between the lines so the camera can get nice pictures of them! lol I hope everyone realizes that I have a strange sense of humor and am just kidding! I have enjoyed this site so much that missing an animal now and then won't break me! I never would have dreamed a few months ago that I could ever be addicted to something such as this! It was like having withdrawal symptoms yesterday with the cam down. I kept checking every few minutes to see if it was back! lol I guess I much prefer an in focus picture with as wide a view as possible to a snowstorm like we had a couple of evenings last week. Even some people are camera shy, so why not some animals? Although it does seem at times that some of these creatures are posing for us. Now I am hearing calls from far away. Will be watching to see if anything exciting happens again soon! (I am not getting any work done around here!)

Ann you must get a much better pic than me! I can't see that kind of detail. But he seems to be quite pleased with himself. __________________

Ann, the cam view has been debated many times. You will be pulling your hair out if you let it bother you too much. There was even a thread asking what view we preferred. Many people asked that the point be exposed as so many critters come there to drink and all we saw was a nose or part of a head. Sometimes only heard the lapping. LOL If they pull the cam back too far, the animals (smaller ones) are almost impossible to ID. I think no matter where the cam is situated the critters will find that one spot not showing. heehee __________________

Well, they came from the right, but look where they are now! Is that a trunk or is it a pool vacuum hose I see in the water? lol Looks like one messed with the logs over the pipes too! I see it is not quite midnight there at the wh, so I suppose everyone is asleep. Good thing we all know what an ellie looks like, or we could be tearing our hair out knowing that something is there and out of sight! |
