Some recent bird pics of mine

Hello Africammers,

I went down to the Drakensberg mountains this last weekend for a short break and visted the local falconry centre. There was a very nice show put on for the vistors which featured a black eagle, a spotted eagle owl, a lanner falcon, a crested eagle and a cape vulture. Being so close to the birds, I got some nice hi-res pics of them which you can see here:

Comments welcome.

Thanks Barry. I'm not sure if the Eagle Owl is bigger than the great horned owl. Despite what the photo looks like, it's actually quite small. I'll have to check with BigFrank Smiling

Thanks for sharing cameraman. Nothing like a place like that to get close-ups. I assume you have a digital camera? Did you "tweak" (Lloyd's word) them or do anything to them at all?

Yes I have a Canon 350D. All the pics are tweaked to some extent - I'm still finding my way around the camera.

I find the "white" on the bill of the black eagle a bit too white, for the rest the eye is great.

All the pics I took that morning were overexposed Sad I set the aperture to f8 and let the camera take care of the shutter speed but forgot to set the ISO down to 100 (it was a reasonably bright day). Plus I was shooting in JPG format so I couldn't change the white balance afterwards.

Lesson learned. In future I will use f8 and the auto-shutter but double-check the ISO and shoot in RAW format so I can fiddle with the exposure afterwards without messing up the saturation.

The photo of your daughter and the owl is superb, you caught the expressions at just the right moment

It's one of a series of rapid shots. I just selected the best one Smiling
