In addition to Gerda'a reply - hippos do not only live in rivers MystyLyn - although we see larger pods in rivers, they will habituate almost any water source as long as it is big enough for them to exist as a pod and deep enough to submerge - and there is enough grass for them.

In smaller waterholes and dams there will only be 'one or two' hippos as a rule - and they may only be 'passing through' if the waterhole is not very deep.

I had NO idea. Thank you Gerda! They are such GORGEOUS animals...I am infactuated with hippos.....lolol. Oh I hope they come back some evening!!!! This makes my resolve to someday visit Nkorho all that much stronger.

Hippos are grazers and feed at night. They travel long distances from the water at night to graze on grasses.
