Mistylyn,
Hippos are grazers and feed at night. They travel long distances from the water at night to graze on grasses. I had NO idea. Thank you Gerda! They are such GORGEOUS animals...I am infactuated with hippos.....lolol. Oh I hope they come back some evening!!!! This makes my resolve to someday visit Nkorho all that much stronger. __________________

I posted video of the hippo's, if anyone would care for a replay
Bottlenose will you post them under Nkorho Pan cam pics too, there is a topic for video clips. I'm afraid if we leave it here, it might get lost when there is a lot of postings.

In addition to Gerda'a reply - hippos do not only live in rivers MystyLyn - although we see larger pods in rivers, they will habituate almost any water source as long as it is big enough for them to exist as a pod and deep enough to submerge - and there is enough grass for them.
In smaller waterholes and dams there will only be 'one or two' hippos as a rule - and they may only be 'passing through' if the waterhole is not very deep.
