Are there any types of wolves in Africa?
There is an animal in Ethiopia called the "Ethiopian Wolf" (Canis simensis). It is also known as the "Abyssinian Wolf" and "Simien Fox".
But it is not the same species as the Grey Wolf (Canis lupus) that occurs in North America, Eurasia and the Middle East.
Both species belong to the family "Canidae" and the genus "Canis".
Ethiopian wolves most likely evolved from a Grey Wolf-like ancestor.
The species is probably the rarest canid in the world. There are only about 500 hundred adult Ethiopian wolves left.
