Hi and some questions . . .

I just got registered, finally! But last night I was dying to ask someone if the noise we heard was a leopard or cheetah or something panting right into the microphone! It sounded almost like someone sawing something. I could NOT figure out what that was. Does anyone know????

Also, how do you pronounce Nkorroha (sorry about spelling)? Is it n-k-or-a??? Or is one of the letters not pronounced? I've noticed double consonants at the beginning of several words in Africa, so I just wondered.

And just one more. I saw someone mention Scott Campbell, I think? Is that who is running the cam? And does he ever come and chat? Love this sight, although hard to figure out at first! Thanks to any who respond!

hehe, can we have a prize visit to Nkorho for the winner  Or we could ask about Hluhluwe

Shushluwee?

Whatever - hyaenas calling...... Hey! I've got this one! It's
Shluh-shloo-wee. Easiest said if you pretend like your cheeks are full of marbles! At least, that's as close as I can get it in type. Our poor guide there - he laughed at me every time I butchered it! His name was Wessell - pronounced, Vessel!

A lot of differences in opinion in the pronunciation of Nkorho!

N-Kor-o (with a soft nnn - in the same way that you would say 'mmm') then a hard K, soft 'or' (Kor) and a gentle 'oh' at the end is, I believe, the correct pronunciation?

My sister-in-law in Cape Town says it's
N-kor-zo

I asked my parents, who in turn asked one of the people down in Durban, and they said it was n core oh, with the n like the beginning of "night". Not sure of the accuracy, but, if it helps! Laughing out loud

Thanks for the information. Can you imagine a cricket making all that noise? LOL! I would much rather it be a leopard!!! But I'll take crickets, too, especially since they are in Africa!!! It just astounds me that I can be sitting in my kitchen watching a LIVE stream from Africa. Honestly astounds me. Anyway, here we all are. It will be fun!

Hi Ann!! Welcome to Africam and the Boma Laughing out loud

I would pronounce Nkorho - N'kuru ...... but the wise ones will correct me if that's not right Eye-wink Laughing out loud

That sawing sound is we think crickets or frogs that are near the mike at night. Tonights sound isn't so good, I think the weather is affecting it.

Campbell is "Africam" - again someone will correct me, and he comes and tells us if there is a larger than usual problem with the cam.

Karin is one of the cam operators and is the Manageress of Nkorho. She often chats with us when she has time , she is awesome at finding little birds and animals for us to look at - Karin is fantastic!!! As is Africam!!! Laughing out loud
