Planning a trip to SA for (hopefully ) this year. I would love love to get all advice as to best time to go ( spring, summer, fall ) and where to go. Of course my trip would have to end or begin at Nkorho. I know So. Africa has so much to offer as to different experiences so I would like to take in as much as possible as it will probably be my first and last trip. I am in reasonably good shape for my age, but I do not think I would be able to do an extended Hiking Trek although I would love that. But I do wish to at least have a couple of nights under the stars. And I do not particually want to "experince" the city life , I want to meet and greet the Native peoples . Put me in the Bush Laughing out loud

Also would appreciate tips on what to pack, what is allowed to bring into, and out of the country. In a nut shell, the little items that I may take for granted, such as toilitries, electronics (phones, laptops, etc). What if any gifts could or should I bring ?

THanks in advance for all advice and info.

If you would like to do a bit of walking and see some lovely scenery the Blyde River Canyon is quite something. You will find it in the Mpumalanga section that Katja gave you.

Also have a look at the ads that are on africam.com on the right hand side.
There are some great suggestions where to go and what to do in South Africa.

Hello Wild Dreamer,

Well - what to pack depends on where you go, how you travel, what time of the year etc. So let's start with that. Eye-wink

If you want to go to the area where Nkorho is I wouldn't recommend to go during South African summer (December to February) because it usually is very hot and humid. Personally I don't like South African winter either because the nights can get very cold, and often it's not possible to sit outside in the evening.
So in my opinion the best months are April, September, October, maybe also May and August.
In April and May the bush will be much greener which looks beautiful but the density of the bush can make game viewing difficult.

How do you want to travel? Self-drive or join a tour group with a guide? Camping or lodges? How long do you want to stay? And do you want to stay in one place for a long time or move around a lot?

There are lots of possibilites... Laughing out loud

Here are links to the websites of three provinces. You can see on the websites what they have to offer. If you want to see wildlife, these are provinces I would recommend to visit.

Mpumalanga (where Nkorho is)
KwaZulu Natal
Limpopo
