Bill, WA5GHR Hi Bill, Actually I do have a license. WA4SCS, the only novice in QCWA LOL As far as getting on the air, haven't in years. But I do have all my dad's gear which includes an Icom hf radio, several 2 meter radios and a 2Kw amp. I'm thinking the tower you see is used to stay in contact with the landys while they are out on safari. Chuck __________________

I don't know much about amatuer radio stuff but I believe that the radios in the Sabi Sands have a very limited range - and as Chuck says, are used to keep in touch with the Landy's and other lodges in the area.
It is highly unlikely that you would be able to access them via AR - and even if you could it would not be advisable to do so as the lodges, being quite isolated, often depend upon their radios for emergencies (as the phones are unreliable in the bush) and they would not appreciate outsiders interfering with that.
