If this isn't allowed,by all means delete! Also, please help me with the size if possible. Even though these are all around 450 x 400, they seem large to me.

I was hoping to start a thread dedicated to Sparrow photographs and identification from around the world. I'm so Sparrow challenged. I see many of the dear little birds and I have the most difficult time telling which is which. They seem to hybrid quite frequently and distinguising their markings gets difficult.

Will you share photographs of the Sparrows you see and your location please? I would love to see examples from around the world.

Here are a couple of the Sparrows from Central Park, NYC, USA.

Thank you Katja :)

I had Sparrows (House) eating from my hand today while I sat at the outdoor cafe in the park. They seem to like the crumbs from chocolate croissant.

White-throated Sparrow

There were hundreds today, all singing and busily feeding,so they can be on their way.

Lovely, Katja, thank you.

Now, help me out with the Sparrow in this photograph. He was flitting around in the center of a pond in the park this morning. He moved so quickly, getting a still shot of him was really difficult (and he was a distance from me behind a fence).

The volunteer who maintains the bird feeders in Central Park has taken down the bottle feeders until after breeding season. Since Sparrows are cavity nesters, they tend to remove the seed and start nests inside the bottle feeders (they're large plastic jugs with holes cut for access).

The only feeder remaining is the one sock with thistle for the Goldfinch and as soon as they finish that seed, it too will be taken down for the season.

I know. I just wish they weren't so quick to run off and fly off. I keep trying to get pictures of them and I'm not having much luck.

I will never ever raise my binoculars and say "oh it is just a Sparrow." These little birds are my best friends after the winter. They were my constant companions on my dog walks Smiling
