Why do people call this owl an 'owlet'? My perception of this call is that it is an adult Pearl Spotted Owl, wheras an 'owlet' is a juvenile owl

Can anyone tell me the difference between the call of a adult Pearl Spotted Owl and a juvenile?

Hey, at least they didn't get demoted to "least" status! I've always felt sorry for birds on the "least" list: The Least Grebe, the Least Bittern, the Least Sandpiper, the least Storm Petrel.... Do you think their friends make fun of them? Eye-wink

The new names for both the Pearl Spotted and Barred are now Owlet - dont ask me why, as the African Scops Owl is about the same size but still an Owl. Puzzled

Thanks Landi - I have not yet bought a new book on SA Birds, having given my old one away....

To me, an owlet is a juvenile rather than being a 'small owl' which the PS, Barred and Scops are.
