this feeder is for flickers and woodpeckers- ** but has to have a mess put over the top where you slide the suet blocks in- these*JAYS * JUST OWRKED AT THE SUET BLOCKS UNTIL THEY BROKE THEM INTO PIECES AND THEN FLEW OFF WITH THE SUET- THE BLOCKS LASTES ** 2 HOURS * LESSON LEARNED

BOTTOM FEEDER WITH THE SPOTTED TOWHEE IS FOR SQUIRRELS IT KEEPS BIRDS OUT (BUT IF YOU LIVE IN A CLIMATE WHERE IT FREEZES I FOUND WE HAD TO PUT A THUMB TACK UNDER THE EDGE OF THE LID OTHER WISE IT WOULD FREEZE SHUT AND THE SQUIRRELS COULDNT GET THE LID OPEN (THIS PARTICULAR FEEDER THE SQUIRREL CHEWED AWAY AT THE EDGE OF THE LID SO NOW IT CAN GET IN UNDER THE LID WITH OUT IT OPENING --SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST LOL

I hope you don't mind that I reply...

The bird in Silke's photo is a Blue Tit, Cyanistes caeruleus/Parus caeruleus (I found 2 different scientific names - I think Cyanistes caeruleus is the newer one).

I googled Blue Tit and found 2 different scientific names for it.

wikipedia.org says this:

wikipedia.org wrote:
The Blue Tit, Cyanistes caeruleus (often still Parus caeruleus), is a 10.5 to 12 cm long passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common resident breeder throughout temperate and subarctic Europe and western Asia in deciduous or mixed woodlands. It is a resident bird, i.e., most birds do not migrate.

Thank you Katja, I didn't know they changed the name..... how confusing those changes are!

We don't get too many colourfull ones really. It's a bit difficult to get pics..can't go outside ..they are gone in a flash.. and a bit too far away through the window because of the conservatory. Maybe get some pics in the summer when we are out in the conservatory more Smiling
