OH wow! Look at the rookery! All those Heron! WE have just two or three in our park.

Mine (in my avatar) is the Great Blue. We also have there the Black Crowned Night Heron. And we have several Egret who return every Spring--not sure if they are Snowy or Cattle.

I looked the 2 birds up on wikipedia.

The Great Blue Heron, Ardea herodias, is common all over North and Central America as well as the West Indies and the Galápagos, except in deserts and high mountains where there is no water for it to wade in.

The Grey Heron, Ardea cinerea, is native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa.
It is closely related and similar to the American Great Blue Heron, which differs in slightly larger size, and chestnut-brown flanks and thighs.

Great pictures everyone.

To add confusion, here is another heron - Great Blue Heron from California Ardea herodias:

There is a rookery at the Slough that I often visit to take pictures of birds.
The GBH are starting to pair up now - in the Eucalyptus trees overlooking the Slough.
They have done that for many years.

When it is too windy, they gather along the bank of a creek flowing into the Slough.
