But Kim you can speak for the trees - that makes you VERY smart. Do you know what type of trees are around the WH?

Yes that is the one I saw months ago. So now it seems those staggering animals had been fed alcohol and then filmed? Oh that is soooo horrible. So the whole story is a fake...geezzee cant believe anything these days, guess I shouldnt be so gullable!!!! LOL LOL edit: I havent seen a second video...a caterpillar??? OMy __________________

Unfortunately there has always been a lot of controversy about the fermenting marulas ability to make an elephant drunk like that. Most experts say it was not possible that the animals could get drunk like that and it all was staged. I too had read that it would take LOTS AND LOTS of fruit to achieve that effect.I agree with cerinthe. Had I not watched the 2nd video I might have believed it but until I watched the 2nd video was when I knew it was not true. Especially when it cam to the caterpillar. And for excentrics comment....yes it takes a long time for fruit to ferment unless Marula is just that potent but then that would make the actual drink a high alcohol % But the videos were to funny, they were great.....Good laugh! __________________

Amarula sells in literally every liquor store her in Dallas. If anyone can't get it where you leave you can PM me and we can make arrangements - I can ship it to you. I have seen "Animals are Beautiful People" fairly recently. I can't remember the specifics but there were some additional misnomers in the movie, not just the marula fruit part. It's a cute movie but not one to be taken as "gospel" Edit to add - I just read Su's post about feeding the animals alcohol. Wow! Unbelievable that they did that.... __________________

Love the drink!!! It's great over ice, or in coffee and hot chocolate. Go to the drinks website and there are a ton of recipes. Haven't tried any yet, but plan too.

There were actually fed alcohol soaked food and then filmed.
As a kid I thought the film was great, but never knew, til just reading this, that it was totally staged.... In those days (must have been at least 35 years ago I saw it) the ethics of this would not have been a matter for concern to the film-makers or the viewing public...... Now though, thankfully, it's a different story. __________________

I saw this film or one very similar many many many years ago when they used to fun a small film alongside the main feature at the cinema. It was so funny to this day i can remeber the baboon with his hand sheilding his eyes the morning after! __________________

I have always wondered about the fantastic, crazy video's that get passed around showing animals getting drunk on fermented marula fruit so I just did a search on the internet. According to National Geographic Institute the stories are completely false...It was quite fascinating and a good read.
