A Bright New Day!
Tuesday Feb. 20th Cam Discussion
The hippo is responsible for the most human fatalities, after the Mosquito, in Africa.
Most of these fatalities are caused by humans straying into the foraging paths of hippos at night/early morning an/or getting between the hippo and the water..... whilst some are caused by people canoeing on rivers and getting too close to a pod.
An adult hippo can easily bite a large canoe in half in one chomp of it's massive jaws - imagine what it could do to a mere human!
Running away from a hippo is no use either - they can travel at up to 40kph (+/- 25 mph) - and they swim much faster than we can too!
Hippos are very scary - I would rather face a large male Lion in the bush than a Hippo any day!
Yeah, I realized. I was just responding to an earlier quote.
There is a new day started....please post there.
No chance. That would be the worst (and last) mistake the hyena could make.
OMG!! Can't believe I almost missed this. When I saw the chat was 10 pages longer then when I left knew something was up.
A real, live, sleeping hippo. Unbelievable!!! Looks like he's there for a while.
Holy Heck.. what is in the water..?? guess I'd better read and see whats been going on here since I was here last night..
I read that they filled the WH today. Someone correct me if I am wrong about that!
Yes, Karin said that they filled the WH today. However, that extra little stretch of water wasn't there until Mr. Hippo got in. There was a bit of that little stretch of water...but not that much. hehehe
Now when the impalas come to drink in the morning...they'll all stick out their tongues and say, "Ewww...tastes like hippo." LOL
**new day** all go to the new thread!
will hyena attack him?
