what happened with the Buffalo remains from the 25th of December 06 ?

After the Lions, normally the Hyaenas and jackals come, then the vultures and the maggots

Was it removed ? When after the kill ? Does anyone knows ?

When this was answered before, pls put my nose on the thread Laughing out loud

Ah well.

I was in Berg en dal in 2001. The resident hippo was killed by an intruder, and was stinking to high heaven. The dam was beside the camp fence.

After a day, it was so bad, the rangers removed the hippo from the dam and dragged him about 50 yards away. They also took out his stomach to release the gas gathered in there - psssssssssssss

It was a wonderful night in the bush. We could see by our flashlights, the hyenas, lion, jackals and even a very bad tempered elephant that came trumpeting through.

There was a pride of 8 lions with cubs, and one of the little cubs got himself a bit disorientated, and came and hissed and spat at us at the fence. Unforgettable.

Hello,

thanks for the Infos.

Ladikara, you wont believe what gets all cleaned in the KNP.

After the flood of 2000 , the Lethaba Riverbed was cleaned of all woods, debris and other shredded stuff. I saw the Caterpillar parked a little ofset in the river bed.
Thatfor its looks again like it does today, very neat, but naturally unreal.

As Wildlifecampus said once. If there would be a croc in the pond, it would be removed, due to eco tourism area.

Thatfore, I was asking regarding the Buffalo remains. It could be dragged away into the bush, to avoid smelly iritation to the lodge

If I remember correctly, the night after the remains were drug into the woods to the right of the water hole by one of the male lions, a large herd of buffalo came with some entering the area where the carcass was. Apparently they ran the cats off. When some of the lions came back near the water hole on the opposite side, several of the bull buffalo challenged them and the cats moved away.

It almost seemed like the buffalo were out for revenge. Very strange.

I would assume scavengers got what ever was left of the remains.

As I remember from the posts here (as I were on holidays those days)...the lions at last dragged the carcass behind the bush again...

I think I saw some pics of a male lion drugging it...Try to find them on 25-26 December pics thread

Edit : and there were several pics of hyenas beside the waterhole the next night Eye-wink Laughing out loud

Well I am sure everything was picked off. I am sure the bones are scattered all around the area. I'm also sure the horns are somewhere around.

Nobody goes out and picks them up. That doesn't happen in the wild, which is what this is. Smiling
