 Could it have been a civet?

There are more than one kind of mongoose at the water hole. The one pictured near the bottom of this post is I think a slender mongoose. http://www.africam.com/boma/viewtopic.php?t=909&start=30 __________________

That's the puzzle. There is a ringtailed mongoose but it lives in Madagascar! I'm positive one of our critters does have a ringtail and one a white tail. More research needed!

Grannycat - the genet face does look quite a bit more pointy....what mongoose has those distinctive tail rings, I wonder....I like that website... __________________
