Very neat to get pictures of bird behavior, Dreamer. Really cute.

This afternoon while I was at the mailbox, I saw a Mockingbird on the roof of my home, and another tugging at some dry looking flower stems in the flower bed. The bird on the roof was chirping and "talking". I watched the bird on the ground hop carefully away, then I went back in the other door. The birds flew off and I went out again and loosened the dry flower stems and put them on the flagstone path. Sometime later the dry flower stems were gone. I hope they are now part of a home to some future baby Mockingbirds.

Wish I could have gotten pictures of the two of them.

It is also fun to put out bits of colored string and the hair from your hairbrush and fur from your dog/cat if you have pets. We used to spread them around and watch the birds take them for nests. Lint from your clothes dryer is much appreciated by nest building birds also. I did not do that for a long time, but I will next year ! I did it when my son was small and I used to do it as a child. Mourning Doves are very bad nest builders, a few sticks and they call it ready LOL , but Mocking Birds build sturdy nests.

Prolific breeders those Mourning Doves.

I still don't know about the juvenile that landed on my fire escape this evening. It was definitely a Mourning Dove but I wonder why it was mostly white with fairly pale wings but it was clearly marked as a MD, had a MD's head color and pattern.

A couple of shots of my Mourning Dove family. The baby fledged Friday evening or early Saturday morning. I found it inside my screen enclosure ( perhaps one of my cats :? ) I placed it back in the nest and the parents seemed somewhat confused but fed it the rest of the day. Saturday afternoon it flew the nest again and is doing well. Mom and Dad are still seen with it occasionally and the baby is eating and flying just fine. They are already preparing for another clutch, in the same flower pot LOL.

Mom and Dad all lovey Dovey :D
