Who am I #3

I have a very slender body and move very fast...... and I am a diurnal animal

My colouration is brown to dark brown with 2 thin yellowish stripes either side of my spine. My belly is cream, normally with a yellow stripe down the middle. My upper labials are normally creamy to yellowish white.

I feed predominantly on lizards and I prefer to live in sandy savannah in the North East of South Africa

Who Am I?

Scientific name: Psammophis jallae
Common name: Jalla's Sand Snake

is the correct answer!

I have to admit that I knew nothing about this snake until I browsed the Wildlifecampus 'Snakes and Reptiles of the Lowveldt' course and chose it as a quiz question!

I should have posted more clues but my main computer went down (corrupted hard-drive disc or something equally technical that I didn't understand and still don't!) and, to be frank, I could not remember which snake I had posted the question about at the time as I had put the information into a word doc that was lost!

You are close Katja, very close........ but not quite right! Psammophis xxxxxx? Try again!

I don't know, Tabs.
There are many other snakes of the Psammophis genus in my book but none of them seems to fit your description. Puzzled

Some kind of snake? I don't know my snakes very well. I'll have to look it up.

Okay, I looked it up. I think it's the spotted grass snake:

I am indeed a snake but not a spotted grass snake - as a clue the first part of my taxonomic name means 'sand racers'
