I am reading about the marula tree. Am wondering if anyone knows if "our" marula tree is male or female? Only the females produce fruit. And if this one is a female.....since the fruit is so highly valued, does anyone harvest the fruit of this one? Or is this allowed to remain in its natural cycle as well? Just curious....it's an interesting tree! __________________

I've only been watching since January, and I don't know what time of year the tree is in fruit, but I've never seen an especially large number of animals milling about under it so as to suggest there might be any fruit there at all. Maybe one of the mods knows...![]() __________________

I have a question about hyenas. I remember seeing a program when I was younger about Africa and I remember them saying that hyenas like following lions around so they can eat their leftovers or even steal their food. The last few nights I noticed alot more whoops than normal. Is this an indication that lions may be around? __________________

![]() I think I saw something on a show called "The Thirsty Traveler" once which showed how they make "beverage" from the fruit. I don't think the host of the show cared too much for it. __________________

Hyenas are scavengers and opportunists, however they have been known to hunt. They will do what is easiest to obtain their meals. Since we have not heard any lion calls I would not assume there are lions nearby. They make very distinctive calls to each other. We can hope the kitties are nearby. Mike __________________

Some part of the marula, maybe all, is toxic to spiders. Now where have we seen an annoying spicer lately?

Just the web that seems to be infront of the camera lens. Maybe we need to have someone put some fruit in and around our camera tree __________________

Our tree produced fruit this year the animals where eating it. I bought the Amurala today and have had a glass of it. I like it. It is along the lines of Bailys Irish Cream. Thanks! I missed that....or maybe saw them there but didn't realize there might be fruit under the tree. I'll have to try the Amarula sometime. __________________

I believe most recent research on hyenas indicates that they do actually hunt for most of their food, and that scavenging/stealing makes up a much smaller percent than was previously thought. It is difficult for a lone hyena to hunt, but in packs they are quite effective.__________________

I also they I know they prefer to steal food if they can. I would go with the current research if that is what is being said. The only time I have come accross hyena is when they are in the process of trying to steal a kill. However a few encounters does not mean anything in the big picture. Mike __________________

White dots are probably the dead cam pixels. There are a number of them. They will move when the cam changes positions. LOL __________________
