It means something on your PC is blocking images from Africam: a firewall, Zone Alarm, anti-virus software or something like that.

Have a look at http://www.africam.com/faq.php for some possible answers.

FOr some reason not unlike the sight Tabs uses for her bird quiz, when I try to view the new Nkhoro camera, the page it launches from loads then my computer locks up. I never get a chance to load the cam ...I dont have broadband, but usually can still see images albeight choppy ones on live video cams. It seems unlikely that Im the only one this happens to. I cant do anything but power off and reboot.

My understanding is that, in order to view the new cam and hear the sounds you need to have Broadband connection - but I will check this out again for you tomorrow Frank.

Hi all
it's great to see, ther's a new cam here, but i'm not able to watch it, cause my pc system is not windows, it's knoppix and i don't know how to install applications make me able to watch streaming cams

Hello ulli,

Fear not - I run Gentoo and my wife runs Ubuntu and we can both view the streaming cam just fine.

You will need to install the Windows codecs and the mplayer plugin for mozilla if you want to see the stream in your browser. Or if you're a command line type you can dump the stream to disk and play it as it's coming down the line with:

mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile stream.wmv http://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/nk1957 &
and then
mplayer stream.wmv

Let me know how you get on.

Ouch - IE 5.1 was released for MacOS 9 a good 5 1/2 years ago if I recall correctly. That is unfortunately just a bit too ancient for us to help with compatibility - especially on the Internet video side which has advanced very far in that time.

Possible courses of action:

* Get a PC and install Ubuntu 6.06 on it or get a second hand iMac with OSX
* See if the latest Quicktime supports connecting to the video stream directly.
* Does Safari work on OS 9? I don't think so but I can't remember offhand...
* See if mplayer works for you - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18580

Frank, that sounds like a corrupt video or audio codec you have installed there. The streaming cam uses Windows Media Video 9. Check in your media player that this works and is correctly installed. There is no ways just playing a video can reboot your PC.

Mind you, with Windows anything can happen...

kaffeine doesn't come with the Windows media decoders by default - you have to install them. It understands the audio format though which is why you can hear the sound. Send me an email - my address is on my user profile - and I'll tell you how to do so.

I have an eMac OSX 10.3.9 and I use the latest version of Firefox. I get no sound and no picture at all. Sad

I was told by someone on another message board that Macs can't see the Africam but the Wavelit site says if you are using a Mac click here but that doesn't help either.

Thanks if you can help me.

Dear Marie

Assuming that you have read all the messages above yours, regarding using Macs to view Africam and they did not help you, I am passing your message along to cameraman who may (or may not? Sad ) have some advice for you.

Now http://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/nk1957 comes with a message statting that "The Video you are watching is pirated" and has a skeleton head& spooky music. I can't see it after all. Guess my Mac isn't able to see it

I get exactly the same thing now - "this video stream is pirated."

There's nothing wrong with either your Mac or my Linux box (the fact that we can see that video proves that) - it's just that Africam's streaming provider is forbidding direct connections to the video stream. I will ask what's going on.

Mariebelle and cameraman.
i went to my oldest very slow PC/Win95 with IE6.4 and used the URL posted by Mariebelle AND i am getting video and sound ! LOL, miracles do happen.
Thanks for posting this URL from me and maybe from a few others who were unable to view and listen to the cam.
It is a bit herky jerky stream and pic cuts out to black screen now and then but pic and sound come back within a second or two. As of now no animals sighted on this WMP, so cannot tell if i am getting a still pic (because of slow old PC) or if it is in reality interrupted streaming??
I am able to view NkoCam very well on my Win98 and WinXP computers but i just had to try that URL on my old Win95. !! Smiling
repeating Mariebelle's URl that worked : mms://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/451OK
Thanks again

Also... for Macs to play Windows Media files, a Flip4Mac plug in for Quicktime. Works fine.
