While we were in Brighton on Sunday, we noticed some gulls behaving in a way we had not seen before. Along the shoreline they were picking up what looked like mussels (or a similar bivalve). They then flew into the air and dropped it onto the beach (for those who donât know, Brighton is a pebble beach), sometimes repeatedly, to access the contents. I have a new camera (the Pentax *ist DL2 â I bought the Pentax so that I could use all my old Pentax lenses), so I decided to try out something I had never done before â taking pictures of the gulls in flight!
This picture shows a juvenile in flight with a mussel in its beak.
This one shows a gull carrying a crab! It was mobbed by many other gulls all trying to steal it.
