Look at the skies often Smiling About 2 years ago I went to the post office, not far from where I live and when I was still locking my bike, I heard them and when I looked up, there were about 70 flying over. But that's all I have seen so far.

LOL!!! You are lucky ...No they will never come over our heads here in Edessa ...It isnt their way..
.But often I have seen Dalmatian pelecans on migration flying over my house and some times I had the feeling they would come into the house....as they fly very low just over the roofs of the houses...Edessa is built at the edge of a steep rock and birds that flying over the big plain of Central Macedonia often dont go higher when they suddenly meet the rock!!!

The european cranes are on their way north too. I heard that about 35 000 left Lac du Der. I wonder which routes they take and where they have stopovers? There is not that many seen in Belgium.

Thanks Cerinthe...I hope you will see them ...
.I have never seen one  My books and the checklist of Greek birds tell that Grus grus migrates regularly every year...buy it is a rare bird.. Delta of Evros River in east and the little lake at Pilos in west are two places that someone can see the birds in migration...I had found some photos on web of a crane's flock at Evros River ...not away of my native town ...But I weren't so lucky to see one when I visited the region   Maybe I have to try again in future Eye-wink
