From the Cape Leopard Trust (Leopard cam):

Dear Friends
I am so unbelievably happy to tell you..."Johan" was captured and collared yesterday!!!!!!

Pics are attached. In the first photo:
Rika du Plessis (Cape Nature); Willem (new CLT field assistant); Johan; Quinton (very happy). A huge thanks to these guys for their awesome help (incl. Johan)...

I could not believe that it was happenening and was hoping someone would pinch me to wake up. How many nights i had dreamt about finding this awesome guy in our cages so brilliantly constructed by Jaco van Deventer of Cape Nature. PERFECT!!!
Everything went absolutely perfectly. This after I found his fresh tracks go around the cage early on Sunday morning - we had not seen his tracks for close on 4 months - he then walked around the cage. LUCKILY, he wondered back again a few days later & walked straight in yesterday. Remember - no bait - just a double door walk-through trap placed in the middle of incredible wilderness.

Also - You would also not guess his weight. We always thought he was a big boy - but 45kg!!! Massive for our Western Cape leopards.

On a parting note - I sincerely apologise about our newsletter being a bit late, however, Nicole is away & I am absolutely swamped with work. Hopefully will have one out with more info in a couple of weeks time.

kindest regards

Quinton & Nicole Martins
