Hi Lynne/VA (LTNS)...your cardinal is beautful...have only seen them once, in Maui a few years ago. Kru Kab...yesterday I had 4 northern flickers in my tree....3 red shafted & 1 yellow shafted. They seem to be such gentle birds & very considerate of one another.....always wait their turn at the suet. You live in a gorgeous area of BC

I believe more that it is a result of environmental impacts...but what exactly ...I can't imagine..Must be a balance between the survival from predators and competition between the idividuals of the same species....
I think in North America the birds have got more bright colours than ours here in Europe....Is it true...Can someone explain it :
