PS: You must get out more in the field, there are many of them here. Different sizes even.

Still a great shot, you wouldn't expect it there, but maybe Berlin has a lot of trees? I had one once in my garden, fortunately I was at home to see it.
Some parts of the city have a lot of trees but not the area where I saw the woodpecker. I told a friend who lives in Berlin about the woodpecker, and she thought I had been really lucky to see it there. Laughing out loud

P.S.: This was only the 3rd woodpecker I have ever seen in Europe.

I was surprised by this Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) in the centre of Berlin two weeks ago, so I was not prepared to take photos. I saw it in a tiny park in the middle of many of the historic buildings.

Barry, we are getting your weather here and you have ours!! Sorry it's hitting you so hard though. I know your area isn't used to it. Our overnight low last night was 10C (50F) after a high of 16.5C (62F). Hope you are ok with the power outages. I've sen a lot of the area on the news and in the papers. Thinking of you. ((HUGS))
